DAMN YOU, Jonny!!!  That is the one song that chokes me up and tears stream down, everytime I hear it!  Now you got this blubbering old fart here ....

THANK YOU, Jonny!!!

Please, don't ANYONE forget what we are honoring today!  God bless the families of those who gave the utmost, and thank you to all the other veterans and their families.

And to all who have served, or are serving, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Chuck

Went to my town's little VFW service today, and it was really touching. They did a roll call of all the service people from our town who have lost their lives from WWI forward. The long, long list from WWII was particulary poignant.  Thank you to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice! [smiley=bow.gif]

Thanks Jonny.  That song came out when I was stationed in Greenland.  It was amazing to see an entire room full of not only Americans, but Danish and Greenlandics as well, signing this song at the top of their lungs, some with tears pouring from their eyes as they sang.  It still chokes me up every time I hear it.

Billy Ray Cyrus' song - Some Gave All - is another one that is very appropriate to this day.

Memorial Day is a day to honor those who have died in our nation's service.  It is the blood of these heroes that has bought our freedom and it will be through the blood of others that we remain free.

Sadly, too many people now just look at it as a day off.  A day to go to the lake or barbeque.  There was a time when people were looked down on and even ridiculed for serving in the armed forces.  I can remember sitting in a restaurant or some other public place when someone would cut me a disapproving glance or make a snide comment to whoever they were with.  Talk about wanting to bust some heads.  I'm glad to see a renewed sense of gratitude to our military past and present.  I salute those who have fallen for our freedom and pray for the families they left behind.

Here's one of many websites about Memorial Day.

Visited DC a couple of years back.

Went to Arlington and was lucky enough to catch the changing of the guard.

I can not attempt to tell you what that was like.  Hit me hard and continues to do so.

Special place...special citizens.

This is always quite a day here. Beautiful for a change.

We added our first (hopefully last) Iraq casualty to the city hall memorial this year. A young man in the 10th Mountain Division.

Jamestown does a good job with our memorials and keeping alive memories of veterans. God, I'm old. There were Civil War veterans alive when I was born.

I love our flag..... I have never thought it was more beautiful than today.... love ree

No matter what the politicians do to muck it up sometimes, I am proud to be an American, and thankful for all those who have fought so hard to establish and maintain our freedom.
Whomever and wherever you are, you are in my prayers.
Kim
