Like me using Lizzie. My dad has always called me by my middle name. My given name is Carrie Elizabeth. I always hated the name Carrie, so informally I go by some form of Elizabeth. I like the name Carrie much better now than I used to - but I love my middle name...so it persists most of the time! ;) Lizzie :) |

Title: Re: Let's play the Name Game Post by BobG on May 24th, 2005, 12:17pm I know, I know. This is a 2 day old thread but I have to put in my 2 cents worth. I have a cousin that goes by the name Les. It’s short for Leslie. Kinda girly sounding. He got beat up a lot as a kid. So what does he do to his kids? He has 2 daughters. Chuck and Bob. Chuck’s real name is Charlene. She has the toughest job ever, stays home with the kids. She goes by Charlene now except by us that watched her grow up. Bob’s real name is Roberta. She’s an attractive, successful business women. She still uses the name Bob. It’s printed on her business cards. It really screws up the macho male chauvinist pigs when they think, before meeting her, that they will be dealing with a plain-ol-Bob. |

Title: Re: Let's play the Name Game Post by Woobie on May 25th, 2005, 12:21pm I always hated coming up with names...because I could always think of ways the kids would make fun of whatever name I picked. Kids are cruel........and they can come up with something for every damned name out there... I had 4 names picked out for Sami... and decided that I would wait till she comes out and name her the one that best fit what she looked like. They were Samantha, Amanda, Alyssa, or Nicole. I took one look at her and said "this is definately a samantha".... and she still looks like a Sami. I did the same thing with Alyssa. Her eyes immediately said "alyssa" to me. And - I was right. I think it's easier to name a baby after youve met them. How can you name something you've never seen? Friend of mine had a name all picked out "April"... but then the kid came out - with a head full of jet black hair... and ended up naming her Raven. Not April. LOL Just my two cents. |

Title: Re: Let's play the Name Game Post by Frank_W on May 25th, 2005, 12:40pm Good point, Woobie. When Mari and I were trying to decide on a girl's name, we had it narrowed down to either Rebecca or Julia. One night, I had a dream of our daughter. She appeared as a 4-5 year old girl, and she was PISSED. She said sternly, "My name is NOT Rebecca! It's JULIA!!" And so she is. :) |

If this child would have been a boy the name would have been Peter after my Gramps. Kin ya imagine bein called Little Peter my short peckered pal as your nickname? Title: Re: Let's play the Name Game Post by Kris_in_SJ on May 26th, 2005, 9:03pm As long as the baby isn't named "Moon Unit" it's OK. Back when mine was born, we wanted a name that was timeless (and rare at the time). This year, Emily became one of the decade's most popular names. If I'd had a boy, he would have been Nicholas (Nick is so manly sounding). I recommend a name that will sound good forever regardless of the person's age - infant or 90-years-old. What fun! Good luck, Kris |

The names we ended up going with: Flynn, is my eldest, and Delaney, (whom we call Laney) is my youngest. I firmly believe (like Charlie) that if you want to be really original, go with names like Betty, Jane, Sue, and Ruth. |

Glad I'm not related. On my block in the fifties, my friends were named, Joe, Bob, Tim, Don, Bruce, Lynn, Steve, Mike, Barbara, Jackie, Carol, Jerry, Jeff, Diane and another Chuck.
