Title: Eurovision Song Contest Post by sandie99 on May 19th, 2005, 3:02pm You know it's spring when the Eurovision Song Contest is here. ;) Every year the media here in Finland is sure that we'll win. Well, later on tonight we'll find out if we're in the Saturday's final. I'm optimist - each year I keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. :) As you know, it's a contest full of intresting song, interesting outfits and each country tries to put a fabulous show on stage. Let's see who wins this year... I'm not naming favourites here, but during the last 5 years I've known correctly the top 5. :) Let's hope it won't be another "no points" year for Finland..... ;) Best wishes, Sandie p.s. at least my two faves made it to the final 2 at American Idol... ;;D |

Title: Re: Eurovision Song Contest Post by sandie99 on May 19th, 2005, 3:15pm But you can't keep me from watching it... ;;D Svenn, are you sure that you don't feel that way just because Norway and Finland are often those low points countries? ;) But unlike us, you guys have actually WON it. Btw, Finland's contestant, Geir Rönning, is actually originally from Norway. ;) |

Title: Re: Eurovision Song Contest Post by sandie99 on May 19th, 2005, 3:58pm Okay... :) I can understand that many don't. I have a pal who watches the ESC with lots of drinks... she has rules when it's time to drink. E.g. ballad comes, tacky outfits... ;) |

Hey, don't forget about Iceland - they didn't even make the cut this year. One of my nieces was crushed by that news. |

Title: Re: Eurovision Song Contest Post by Ueli on May 21st, 2005, 8:41pm On Saturday evening the main event infested TV sets all over Europe. But I'm not sure, was it a competition on who has the biggest tits and the deepest cleavage or was it, as the title said, a competition for the best song. Some singers were so awful they shouldn't sing under the shower when at home alone. Others reached mediocrity and a few even went beyond. The winner, Helena Paparizou from Greece, must have some musical merits, since her neckline was not particularly low, although she used a wonderbra to her advantage. Hard to believe it was the same contest that in previous years had winners like Sandie Shaw, Lulu, Dana, Abba, Johnny Logan, Céline Dion, Johnny Logan, Katarina and the Waves. [smiley=smokin.gif] |

Title: Re: Eurovision Song Contest Post by marty on May 23rd, 2005, 9:03am I just watched the winning song on a Swedish site.. Sad and embarrasing :-X There was a time when the contestants had to sing in their native language - they should have kept that rule. Marty |

Title: Re: Eurovision Song Contest Post by floridian on May 23rd, 2005, 11:13am Physicists analyze bias in Eurovision: http://www.nature.com/news/2005/050516/full/050516-13.html "Britain is in harmony with Europe, Nordic countries fancy each others' stars, and France is out on a limb. That's the verdict of a group of physicists who have studied the much loved and loathed Eurovision Song Contest." |

Title: Re: Eurovision Song Contest Post by sandie99 on May 24th, 2005, 6:33am So my family sat down and watched the ESC this year. My mum was happy - her fave Greece won. I always make top 5 and I was almost correct. My top 5 was Greece, Malta, Latvia, Norway and Israel. Real top 5 was Greece, Malta, Romania,Israel and Latvia. Not bad... ;;D I'm not sure whether I'm happy about the new rules concerning the language; Finland was doing badly in Finnish and now it's doing badly in English. At least now viewers across Europe actually know what we're singing about... ;) |
