Title: Re: Diet Advice For The Girls Post by cootie on May 15th, 2005, 2:27pm We've known several people and even couples that went on the Adkin's diet and lost weight.....and kept it off too !!! I've heard American food has somethin in it to make you crave MORE....have heard some country's want nothing to do with our stuff cuz of it ? And it's one reason people stuff there faces beyond recognition and kids are so obese these days and will do whatever they can do to get piles and piles of junk food and fast food and no control. It was on onea them shows like 60 Minutes or sumthin a while back. Too bad they don't make fat free calorie free cream puff or choc frosted doughnuts........I'd pad my walls with them Pam :P |

Title: Re: Diet Advice For The Girls Post by yikes-another-one on May 15th, 2005, 3:58pm not only do they add the chemical to our foods, most processed foods have "Corn syrup" added to their reciepes to make them sweeter. For some reason, we tend to eat more of the sweet stuff "How to get fat without even trying" was an ABC Special Report with Peter Jennings....and he interviewed the exec that added "cornsyrup" to Ocean Spray Pink Grapefruit Juice...the exec used it to save money and get a sweeter result. When asked if he felt bad that people were getting fat because of his actions, he shrugged. "I got a bonus for saving the company money." I think we need to realize, the things we do today will affect our own grand cildren. We need to act responsibly. and if we know people are getting fat because we added sugar to a recipe....don't you think we need to do something to reverse the damage? Obviously it's not the company that will volunteer to make the change...although within 6 months of the report Ocean Spray now offers a 100% juice, no sugar added formula for less than 30 cents more a gallon. For 30 freaking cents....!!!!! (oops :-/ sorry, climbing off the soapbox, slinking back to my cave. Sorry. didn't mean to get sooooo excited.) |

Dont buy 15 packages of twinkies with your diet coke. Salads are good but not when ordered with 3 Big Macks. Extra cheese. Dont bury the dietery supplement with Cheetos, Fritos and Yodels in the shopping cart. Having 36 Munchkins at Dunkin Donuts does't justify not getting the jelly cruller. |

Title: Re: Diet Advice For The Girls Post by cootie on May 15th, 2005, 4:47pm Stupid me found out my favorite salad dressing has 115 calories per tablespoon and about 60 to 80 fat calories or more in the same !!! Good greif I used to POUR that stuff on. So you could basically have a half cup of that dressing and meet your calorie intake quota for the day minus anything else. I've noticed alot of 'healthy' fruit drinks are loaded with calories sugars and even fat. What's the point.....and the prices !!!!! Screw me twice shame on me Pam Opps.....jus noticed the label on the salad dressing says fat calories are 110 per tbls......holy crap !!!!! |

Title: Re: Diet Advice For The Girls Post by rickyshot on May 15th, 2005, 6:28pm I lost 25 lbs four years ago and kept it off. I did the weight watchers and learned how to eat and drastically changed my lifestyle. I exercise routinely. You can lose weight but won't keep it off without exercise and then everything looks flabby especially at my age. I do weights and cardio and I am firm and can pass for 30. I eat good foods in amost natural state as possible very little fast food. I h ave my cheats but just one goodie a week not a habit and tons of it. I eat five small meals a day and a protein with every meal. I cook from scratch (always have) I am a good cook and a fantastic baker. But I don't bake much anymore. Can;t control myself. I lick the bowls and all that hehe. I bake for holidays. Americans are just plain out of order. They eat nothing but crap don't know what real food is and do not move much at all. You see a lot of younger and younger people with blood clots in their legs and diabetes thanks to modern lifestyle. This will be the first generation that won't live as long as their parents if things do not change. Oh this is a big soapbox for me.And people learn to read labels. The shit you are eating will shock you as stated above. |

Title: Re: Diet Advice For The Girls Post by cootie on May 15th, 2005, 10:35pm As the saying goes "we are what we eat" ! They have so many fast meals these days it has taken over the kitchen I must admit. Simpler to have a frozen 'homemade noodles with chicken' (or whatever) dinner to unthaw and add taters to rather then go thru the long drawn drugout home made way. I agree HOME MADE is best !! But there makein it too easy with all this 'home made' frozen stuff and all the flavor they cram in fast food should be illigal ! I NEVER used to buy the quick dinner things....I love to cook.....but when it tastes so good and is so easy and fast and GOOD it screws with your head. Which leads to our problem......conveinience !!!! Myself I am into veggies, and fruits but heck they add crap to that too !!! Crap on wheels Pam Hey gang check this stuff out......a freind brought some to a campout last summer and amazed the entire group! Kind of wierd but man oh man it smelled like someones grama was at our campsite cookin up some good home cookin.......I got to sample one of the meals and it was WONDERFUL even tho I still think it is WIERD. Lasangna was Brad's favorite. This stuff lasts forever too......easy to heat and carry. Got em at the Truck Stops now. I jus don't REALLY think it is healthy but again they have made it too easy verses regular cooked meals. http://www.products4truckers.com/html/heatermeals.html |

Title: Re: Diet Advice For The Girls Post by Lizzie2 on May 15th, 2005, 11:13pm The best diet is no diet....don't make me start lecturing from my old days of working in nutrition... [smiley=bigcry.gif] Your brain needs carbs! Ahhhhhhh...ok I said I wouldn't get started, so I won't. But the best way to "diet" is figure out your current caloric intake, figure out your metabolic caloric needs, and then increase your activity and lower your intake....but not to lose more than a pound a week. And follow the food guide pyramid! It's not a government hoax! LOL OK...rant over...have fun :) |

Title: Re: Diet Advice For The Girls Post by cootie on May 15th, 2005, 11:31pm Yeah CARBS are my worst problem......I watch what I eat tho and work out weekly and all that jazz......but I CRAVE carbs super bad and it drives me nuts. Is there anything that will over ride that ? Esp late at nite after 10 all I can think of is chips, pasta, stuff like that......stronge overwhelming craveings. I keep it under control but it still bothers me....the craveings are as strong as feeling thirsty on a hot day. I lost my sense of taste and smell after a bout with pnemonia years ago and that was a good diet aid.......so if you could come up with a diet pill that simply decreases smell and taste you'd be a millionere cuz THAT WORKS. Diet conciousness Pam |

Title: Re: Diet Advice For The Girls Post by Lizzie2 on May 15th, 2005, 11:47pm LOL coots...For me, that was 3 ENT surgeries since age 16 and taking topamax. My mom calls me plain jane now because I really don't like my food to have anything on it, and I don't eat anything outside my little "box" anymore. I'm not really a good nutritional example - but I do more or less live on carbs - but mainly fruit. Just ate a bedtime snack of apples and peanut butter - one of my personal favorites! Meds and surgery have pretty much been the reason why my tastes have changed so much - it's kinda weird! I have the pasta cravings (ate it for dinner last night around 10pm), pizza cravings (at least once or twice a week), sugar cravings (lots of juice and code red mountain dew), but I don't really eat meat or much else for that matter...and I think between my crappy diet and how much I run around all the time, it works for me. Carbs are fine - fruit, complex carbs, fiber, etc - best to stay away from the Milky Way Bars (yup I ate one of those today too) - Soooooo...I have no idea what makes me maintain a pretty stable weight despite what I eat and do. It isn't good for ya, but it's how I live. Back to a healthier life thru carbs. ;) bwahaha Lizzie :) P.S. I still think the food pyramid and exercise are your best bet....do as I say, not as I do..ha |

Title: Re: Diet Advice For The Girls Post by sandie99 on May 16th, 2005, 1:07am I know you'll never believe me but it has been actually over a year since I ate my last donut (1 May 2004). The last time I ate hamburgers was in June 2004, the last soft drink was in August 2004 and on the same date I ate my last piece of candy. I have hard time to believe it myself. But I have managed to get rid of most fattening stuff out of my "diet". I do have one thing left: pizza. But I don't eat them often: I had one on Saturday and before that on my birthday (April 14) and before that was in December (6). So no more soft drinks, candies, pastries, cookies, cereal, cakes, chips, crisps, potato snacks, popcorn, ice cream... etc. The milk I drink is fatfree, I avoid yogurt because of the sugar, I don't eat salad dressings (never liked them)and I don't eat cheese (but if I do, I'll have the healtiest around: 95% fatfree). I don't drink coffee nor tea. I eat lots of fresh fruit, I start my day with 3 fruits (had two oranges & apple this morning). I eat lots of vegetables, too. My faves are carrots, which I always have at my house. It's a recommendating here to eat 500g veggies/day and I eat more than that. I do eat carbs, but I control how much and what kind. I eat rye and wholewheat only. Those of you who have never had a slice of fresh, warm rye bread don't know what you're missing! It's not only heathly, it's good... It I have that, I have two slices and little bit butter, but the heathliest kind we have (28% fat, 270kcal/100g). I love pasta too much to give it up, but I don't eat it with protein anymore but with veggies. :) I've lost 12kg since I started doing changes in my diet, I'm more energetic and I haven't gained any weight back. My secret is that I eat the kind of foods I enjoy, I drink lots of water and exercise daily. I never thought I could find such a joy in doing exercises, but I love it! :) |

Title: Re: Diet Advice For The Girls;;D Post by LadyLuv on May 16th, 2005, 11:47am Atkins really do work.... I started Adkins in Sept. of 2003, I've went from a size 18 (231lbs) to a size 10-12 (165lbs).. It took me until May of 2004 to reach my goal. I have been on mantience for the past year.. during my first year, I would have me a splurge @ least once a month. Low Carb is a life long thing and it does work... and since I've been on mantience I continue to splurge every once in a while (ask my CH's Family that attended DavCon ;;D). It's a lot easier now, than when I started.. Now you can purchase everything from, ice cream, cheese cakes, pizza and juice too tv dinners that are all low carb and low fat in any grocery store here in town. TGI Friday, carry a complete section on their menue dedicated to low carb meal, including appetizers and deserts. Last year when I was in Atlanta, I even found a Low Carb Energy Drink (Donkey Kicking[smiley=shore.gif]. They only sell Donkey Kicking in the south, but I've found others since that time under different brand names.. Peace & Blessings Lady Luv |

I was on bed rest with my daughters pregnancy from 3 months and put on a ton of weight. Then my ammune system started attacking my thyroid and it does nto work right amy more. In December of 2002 I weighted almost 300 lbs, then I got preg again. But I learned something when I was pregnant with my son. I eat like my kids. I eat when I am hungery and stop when I am full. Sometimes (hell most of the time) I dont finish what is on my plate. I eat about 4-5 small meals a day and then I dont feel like I bloated toad and I have lost weight. Hell I lost 50 lbs while i was pregnant by eating like this. And I have lost another 50 since then. I dont restrict my diet. I just dont eat huge amounts. If I have a sugar craving or ice cream craving I have some. Just a small bowl. Then my craving is satisfied and I dont sit thinking about what I was craving and pissed off that I cant have it. |
