Title: My new life with babies :) Post by Lizzie2 on May 14th, 2005, 7:32pm Well I'm still doing clinical makeup time and not working in the neonatal unit yet, but today was day 3 in the unit - learning lots! I really like it! At any rate...not sure if you can see these articles without a subscription (free), but these are about a baby I took care of today. I can't discuss the updates specifically, but all I can say is he's come a long way from the articles...very exciting!!! :) http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/living/health/11633593.htm http://www.nbc10.com/health/4488020/detail.html |

The baby currenntly looks much more like a healthy baby! :) Don't you think this is the ultimate tin foil hat? I mean...starting them out as newborns is a darn good idea! Title: Re: My new life with babies :) Post by mynm156 on May 14th, 2005, 8:07pm Neonats are a TOTALLY different animal!!! I can handle an EMERGENCY but not everyday man. Though those boys who do the ECMO make some bank. If your are gonna be a NICU nurse God bless ya! I'd rather go back to the Burn Unit. Good Vibes MYNM156 |

Title: Re: My new life with babies :) Post by Kris_in_SJ on May 14th, 2005, 8:10pm Wow! What a challenge you've taken on. I still thank my lucky stars that mine was born at a healthy, more than full-term, 7lbs. 10 ounces. These are lucky tiny munchkins to have you looking after them. Kris |

I was working in one of our ICN rooms today that has 4 isolation rooms. One of my babies was the one in the pic - he was eventually moved to a larger room with other babies because he was doing so much better - we had 2 in isolation - one of those was one of mine. And in the open area in the back of our room was a baby on ECMO. So i got to watch that today - mec aspiration. Kewl stuff... :) |

You sound like my husband. He was a medic in the Army. He said that they 2 wards he could not handle under any circumstances was Psych and Neonat. It is funny cause my degree is psych and when we first met I was counsiling schizophrenics. He said that they psych ward, he just wanted to smack the people cause he felt that they where all bullshitting trying to get out on Sec8 But the Neonats, he could not handle how emotionally attached he got from just one day there. Peds was his 3rd choice for not where he wanted to be, but he would work peds before the other 2. |
