Title: Kids do the darndest things.
Post by ExplodingEyeBall on May 13th, 2005, 12:25am
Earlier tonight, I was c h e c k i n g an auction I have going on eBay. I left my Firefox browser open with several tabs opened.

It got about time to leave to go to Church for praise band practice so, I grabbed my guitar and left.

Later, When I got back home, I checked eBay again and I noticed that it said I had one item that needed to be paid for. I didn't remember bidding on anything else since I won an auction yesterday. (Got a nice Tiffany clock for my wife)

I looked and saw that I won "COCA COLA BEAR in Sleigh SALT & PEPPER SHAKER SET". I was like - WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!

I found that my 4 year old daughter sat down at my system after I left and started surfing. (My wife busted her doing that but didn't know the half of it yet.)

Somehow, she managed to do a search on eBay and found some cute stuff that she liked. It had a BIN of $19.99. She clicked it. After clicking it, she somehow verified that, yes, I want to buy this.

I should have never taught her how to use the computer. I started clicking around like I thought she probably did and wound up very happy that she didn't find something with a huge BIN on it.

She was searching through collectibles and there were a lot of auctions with BINs of over $5000.00.

Later, I opened up the auction and called her in. She said 'I remember that!!!".

I sent a message to the guy selling it and asked to back out but my wife and I had such a good laugh, I just paid for them.

Now, she has something else to put in her hope chest. I've learned a lesson too.

Ctrl+Alt+Delete and then click 'Lock Computer'.

How funny!!     [smiley=laugh.gif]

Get used to it, bro. It's only going to get worse. Does she like shoes yet?  ;)

;;D

You know, my godson (he's 10 now) used to be quite the little rascal. His funniest trick is when he placed his father's watch to sink... At the time was so small he coudn't talk so when everyone were searching for the watch all he could say was "aagh" and lead them to the right place... ;;D

But keep that story in mind. You can surprise her with that at her wedding one day! ;)

She already did the watch thing a couple months ago.

My wife couldn't find the $150.00 watch I bought for her for Christamas a couple years ago.

We asked Mackenzie where it was. She ran into the bathroom and looked in the toilet and said 'Nope! It's not in there. I don't know where it is.'.

At least we got a great laugh out of this one and she didn't break us by clicking Buy It Now on a $7000.00 item. I back tracked and found where she had been searching and it was in the collectibles category. There were a lot of really expensive things there with Buy It Now.

I guess computer geeks shouldn't leave their children unattended by the computer when they are logged in to eBay. She knows to much about computers already just from watching me.

Great story!....and locking the computer is good advice when you are not around.  I watched in awe as my daughter became computer- savvy from the age of 3 and on up.  They learn keyboarding early in school, and now at 18, she can type close to 80 words per minute and IM four or five friends simultaneously faster than a phone conversation would go.
It's scarey. ;;D

Here she is at the age of 1-1/2 when she first started playing with computers.

Now she's 4 and getting a little to good with them. The last time I had to replace a power supply, she actually did it with my supervision.

Oh no!

But look at the bright side: if she's so good with computers now, she could be the female Bill Gates one day! ;)

BTW, my 9-yearl-old cousin is BETTER in making websites than her teacher. She was asked to TEACH her classmates how to do them! And I did my first website only back in 2001...
