Title: Mugabe says "shoot all the elephants you see
Post by notseinfeld on May 2nd, 2005, 11:48pm
It was much nicer when it was Rhodesia but here's a quick review:

Aparteid: Mugabe encourages the slaughter of white farm owners.
Roughly 5,000 die and farms are subsequently taken but not run properly.
Food Perishes--dies on the vine literally.
Mugabe calls for the killing of all big game including Elephants, Giraffes and the like because "my people are starving."
11 Elephants down yesterday became food for the gov't stooges. Some shot in a zoo.
Mass slaughter of animals taking root in the entire country of Zimbabwe

U.N. has Zimbabe on the human rights panel.

WTF???  How can we allow this shit to happen?  This is disgusting!  Maybe we aught to write to our UN ambasador?  (BTW, who IS our ambasador?)

Something needs to be done about this!  (And NO I do NOT mean "send in the troops!" )

I agree fully chuck--something should be done. Maybe just a sharpshooter for Mugabe as you're right, we don't need yet another entanglement.

And Bob this news and lots more came from Barbara Simpson (among others) who's a columnist on my regular read list.

That is so freaking sad. And the thing to realize is that it's not only barbaric treatment for animals but this level of respect is also applied to the citizens of Zimbabwe.  What do you do with these people? There are some great books about Mugabe, as well as other horrific African issues (Rwanda), that those in the west should read to gain a greater understanding of the elements at work here. You quickly realize that these folks aren't working under the same set of assumptions as we are and that trying to interpret their actions under our world view doesn't apply. Africa is important in many ways to the west's "interests" and its disintegration will not be good for anyone.

Yeah, Mugabe is a bastard.  So is Charles Taylor of Liberia, the butcher who escaped from a US jail and is now the business partner of televangelist Pat Robertson, who has sunk millions into gold and diamond exploration.  And the list goes on...  no shortage of villains on the world stage.

Careful. Lately, we don't wanna learn any history over here. No one wants that......
"Zimbabe? Where's that?"

This guy is monster but then he's way over there and not to worry...... "Zimbabe? Where's that?" So far, Africa is having a hard time staying IN the radar in the 21st century.
