Title: Re: Son's first Tournament..3 gold metals!! Post by Lizzie2 on Apr 25th, 2005, 1:25am Congrats Redd!! We should get him in touch with my boyfriend, Dave. Dave used to teach martial arts and trained for the Olympics for a number of years. He isn't allowed to do it anymore due to a history of having collapsed lungs (NOT related to martial arts!), but I think secretly it's still his passion. ;) I think he's a triple black belt or something like that. Anyways...I'll show him these pictures tomorrow! I'm sure it'll make him smile at any rate :) Congrats to your son! Lizzie |

Title: Re: Son's first Tournament..3 gold metals!! Post by Lizzie2 on Apr 26th, 2005, 1:57am Hiya Redd, Just showed Dave the pictures. He thought they were cool. :) He wants to know what tourney it was? Also, Dave said that martial arts really helped him a lot with self-esteem and some anger issues...learned a lot of self-discipline and self-esteem...positive thinking that way. :) He just said, "confidence, self-esteem, self-control" and he still relies on those things that he learned from doing martial arts even though he hasn't done them for some time. He says he can always calm himself down if he gets frustrated by things or overwhelmed. Even in a physical sense because he was in the hospital with lung surgeries - and he was able to handle the pain better due to his martial arts training. So I'd say it is a pretty positive experience - even years down the line! My old piano teacher always said that if kids would just play for fun years down the line, like at a family gathering or whatever - so long as they would always have it to enjoy or use for some reason, then she felt like she accomplished something - even if they never went on to become concert pianists. These are the most positive things we can instill in our kids - it is great to have something you can hang onto forever. :) Hugz, Lizzie :) |
