Title: Funny "running away" stories Post by Kris_in_SJ on Apr 19th, 2005, 8:36pm I'd never make light of the pain some of our family have endured because of their childrens' actions. However, I also thought about how some of us might have humorous stories to tell about our own experiences with running away from home. Here's mine ... I was 4 years old and lived on a farm. My mother insisted on making brussel sprouts with dinner. I told her if she made those, I was leaving and never coming back! She said "too bad ... let me get your backpack." Long story short .... our barn had burned down the week before and the pigs were wondering loose on the farm. I made it half way down the drive to the main road, when those damned pigs came out of the corn. I was scared to death of pigs! I ran all the way back to the house and hid under the porch until dinner. I went inside ... but I didn't eat those brussel sprouts! At the age of 50, I still don't eat them. Any others? Kris |

Title: Re: Funny "running away" stories Post by Frank_W on Apr 20th, 2005, 8:43am I ran away four times, at the ages of 9, 12, 14. The last time I ran away was at the age of 17, to the Army. Nothing humorous about the escape attempts or why I was running. |

My friend and I made it from N/W Indiana to St. Louis by hitchicking a ride with some guy whos diet consisted of pop tarts and Dark Eyes Vodka. Tried to start walking back when got bored with it and wound up walking right through East St. Louis Illinois. Ever been there? Not fun. |
