Title: Dude, You gotta get a Dell.... >:-(
Post by Lizzie2 on Apr 5th, 2005, 2:33pm
I'm currently offline for most of the time because my freaking laptop fried itself on Sunday night.  I know it's only Tuesday, but I feel like I lost my right hand.  I learned something that my dad had hammered into my head for a long time, but I sort of "forgot about" once I owned my own computer.  At first, Dell told me that I lost the hard drive.

Well....guess what's on there????  EVERYTHING.  I gotta get that baby backed up.  I can't even work on my honors project until I get the computer back.  Fortunately, it was the motherboard and not the hard drive.  Dell went out to my mom's school today to replace all the parts in the laptop.

Funny thing is, this laptop is the replacement for my last laptop that up and died (even after it had every part replaced).  I'm thinking I want to buy a new laptop once I save up the $$!!!  ARG.

So for now, I have my old POS computer sitting in my room, but the dial up is so slow that I can't even really post or read much...takes too long.  I'm on my roomie's computer at the moment.  I should get my own computer back on Friday when I go home for the night.

What's funny is that someone also corrupted our jefferson email system....I have absolutely 0 access to any of the 100+ emails I have stored in my inbox...even in outlook.  For the time being, everything is gone.  This happened Friday afternoon, and they expect to have that email up and running by this Thursday with any luck!  Also, I can't access my ha-support.com email since that runs through the outlook on my dead laptop...and until I get my Jeff wireless card working again, that email won't work.

Soooooooooooo it's back to the basics....phone access for me!  I'll check in when I get a chance here and there!

Just had to rant about dell.  Great tech support - shitty machine!

Lizzie,

I can relate to your computer problems.  [smiley=hug.gif]
I've had share of them myself.

I just hope that you'll get yours back on the day they say you will... Mine took 3 extra days, not to mention extra  [smiley=twocents.gif]. And since I'm a student, too, it was far from nice.

And I know very well what's like to lose everything on the hard drive... I have lost everything on my computer's hard drive not that long ago, too... That's awful experience... I felt like somebody wiped part of me away! There went my diary, my stories, my works... well, I've learned not to save important stuff there now on. I have the old hard drive and you bet I'm going to ask some computer nerd check it out one of these days... ;) Just in case he'd find something.

Anyways,
all the best,

Sandie

Nope. Apples and Oranges. Not true at all. DSL is just faster to the I-net than dial-up. Cable is even faster, usually. Or you could go T-1....  ;;D

Dell is the ONLY PC I buy @ home and the office. Compac and HP make better servers. IMHO.

Or is it...Apples and Windows...?

Carrie, I am sorry that you are having so much trouble with your computer.  I know the feeling.  I switched from Dell to Mac about 2.5 years ago.  I have had my share of problems with the G3 ibook, but Apple replaced the whole machine for me, and I am now working on a G4 ibook and have no complaints.  I find it to be so much easier than my old Dell, with significantly less problems, and better customer support.

I only mention all this because you said that when you save some dough you might get a new computer.  Check out the Apple. They make good stuff.  And, sure it costs a little more, but the headache it saves me is so worth it.  Plus, they just look cool.

Don't we have a lot of pregnant teenagers?  And, doesn't the world revolve around cool looks?  That's what Hollywood teaches me.   ;)

Maybe Apple is perpetuating the cultural fallacy of the primacy of cool.

Casey

edited to say that the primacy of cool looks is exactly why I wasn't popular in high school...and even now, now that I think about it. :-/

Thanks for the support.  Apparently it is up and running but it says something about having a problem running Norton now.  Lovely.  And I just paid to resubscribe...

And what was this about teen pregnancies?

You guys should come visit me this weekend at work...I'll show ya some teen pregnancies.  I don't think I'm old enough to be a mom yet (I'm 24) and I give instructions on how to care for babies to girls 11 years younger than me.  Some nights it makes me sick!

But...to each her own!  Oy....

I think I'm getting back the laptop tomorrow morning when my dad comes into the city for work.  Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Just got home from the craziest night ever working in the ER, and I have to be at the neuro's office at 7:40am...for them to give me the results of my MRI/MRA which I had today...which radiology didn't read yet.  I LOVE it when that happens.

Go Jeff...  <I'm waving the white flag now...>  Good thing I graduate soon! ;-)

Rant over ;-)

L2 :)
