My mum told me this morning that my aunt is certain that she knows why I have CH.

Are you ready?

It's PSYCHOLOGICAL. I'm imagining it all! >:(
Yeah, sure, tell that my neurologist! He thinks that my pain is very real one.

I got so mad... as you can imagine. I am so glad that my aunt and her family are not coming over for dinner today... She's get a piece of my mind!

When next attack comes, I'll just tell it that "you're not for real, I'm just imagining you..."

I must bite my tongue so that I won't tell her that her daughter's allergies are psychological... :-X

Sandie don't be so upset please. My ex Mechanic/armchair doctor boyfriend swore up and down lthis time last year that my headaches also were psychological, and that I should talk to a shrink buddy of his who ahd 100% success rate in "curing" females with these *types* of headaches. (females don't get CH remember...) HAHAHAHA

I have heard that sooo much it's all in my head head ....and you know ....I just don't have the time anymore to get upset need to get ready for a headache......lol

Been there too Sandie ;;D We could only wish it was pschological ;;D Do you remember that tv series "SOAP" and Bert would snap his fingers and he'd think he disappeared? Thats what I do ;;D

What people don't understand they try to make up reasons for. CH is inexplicable so people can't just accept it at that. They have to have REASONS.

But to give your aunt credit -- I've suspected for years it was all in my head. The pain, the eye drooping, the sinus problems -- all of it.

AFter years of hearing bs from well meaning people, I just take it with a grain of salt and tell them it's all in my head before they come out with it. Saves hiding a lot of bodies.... :D

A family once told me that I don't really hurt as much as I say I do, it's just that my Pain Tolerance was low...
You can hardly blame them...most people have never heard of Cluster headaches or even met someone who suffered with this...also, most of our friends and family have never witnessed us under an attack.

Do what I did. Print some info from here and hand it out to family members and friends...invite them to this site too...either they'll believe you then or think we're all a bunch of loonies... :P

I made a post a while back that "people just don't understand".I don't really think that anyone who has never experienced CH can relate to what we go thru.Their explanation of something they don't understand is "maybe it's just in our heads".I guess those who are non-believers should visit this site and do a little research.Next time she drops by for a visit let her read this site just for a few moments.Maybe then she'll have a little compassion for you.Good luck and PF days and nights. ;)David

Actually, reading this site may not convince anyone as we are all just a bunch of low pain threshhold lunatics whining about a headache. There are some more useful links that have nothing to do with this site that may help persistant non-believers get a clue.

Seems alot of people think pain is in yer head when it comes from something 'they can't see' as a reason. No open wounds or lumps and no bleeding from the ears or nose. They think you get a pain or twinge and DWELL on it and if ya kept busy it would not even be noticeable. I say tie em down and saw there arm off slowly and tell em to 'think of something pleasant' cuz it is all in there head. Pain within Pam

MY mom use to say its because I'm no fucking good, its your subconscious, and to get the fuck away from me, there's nothing wrong with you blah blah blah...............................Life without meds and support was tough.

Being a misdiagnosed clusterhead at 13 and getting yelled at with a kip 10 was even tougher :-/

Years ago my mother told me that I must be in
denial about stress, and that was causing the pains.

who has never had to finish anything,
because my siblings love to assist me....
hahhaha

I am such a bohemian....

and she insists i am over stressed.....

I just laugh it off.
And she ends up changing the subject
to her arthritis pain anyway.....so
I jsut don't talk about it with her anymore.

Forgive and move on....

The last person that said I was imaganing it I offered to share. He was dumb enough to say ok right up to the point where I started chasing him with a hot soldering iron, explaining that I will only hold it there (against his temple) for about an hour. I told him after the first 15 min or so it would not hurt as bad only because there is a point where you start to go numb from the soldering iron. As for the ch we dont get that luxurary sp. For some strange reason my friend didnt want to participate any more. ;;D

I guess the older woman clawing at the walls in my doctor's office was having a psychological episode.

Damn I wish they could rename CH. Maybe calling it a syndrome wpuld be more discriptive.

I've been chronic since 1996 and have been through the "all in your head" crap ("no, it is in my eye"). I believe that everyone diagnosed with CH, be it episodic or chronic should be issued a crutch or cane-people with medical disabilities that require some sort of device don't have to put up with the junior psychologist crap (come to think of it, an eye patch would look cool).

While at work I was shadowing... ready for the next attack and a colleague offered me some paracetemol(cos she gets headaches). A kind gesture but I couldn't take her up on her offer as I tried to explain that they wouldn't work. Her reply to me was "well they work for me". Does anyone else get fed up with trying to explain?? [smiley=gocrazy.gif]

Something good came out of my auntie's comments: my mum seems to finally understand more about CH. And she has educated my aunt, too.
