Title: Need a better Geek than me to answer... Post by Donna_D. on Mar 18th, 2005, 8:21pm I use Kerio Personal Firewall 4 (just installed the update). I am running Windows XP (not SP2) using Verizon DSL. I keep getting this... from several different IP addresses. Each time trying to dial in through a different port. I have run: Adaware Hijack This Pest Patrol Nortons Antivirus CWShredder I know how to create a rule to keep it from dialing in, but I have to do this for EACH PORT and it is really getting to be a pain in the ass...each time it tries to dial in I have to stop what I am doing and click about 20 times (that is how many times it tries to dial in). I have disconnected the computer, the modem, run sweeps in safe mode, rebooted...done everydamnthing but throw the box out of the window. I need some help because I have a LOT to do this weekend and need my internet!! Anyone good at this stuff out there that can help me? If you can, PM me, email me, POST, hell send a freakin' carrier pigeon...Hell. PM me your phone number and a time to call...(I promise no middle of the night obscene phone calls - unless that is what it takes to get the job done ;) ) PLEASE!! DD |

Title: Re: Need a better Geek than me to answer... Post by Opus on Mar 18th, 2005, 9:14pm Donna, If you have a network of computers behind a firewall/NAT/router then let it through. If not then then deny, either way check the box and the program will always do it and not ask again. All it is the windows networking, which I believe is still turned on by default in SP2, so that won't help. I'm sure you can turn off the service, which you should do to be safest, but where in XP is beyond me. Normally I decide where it should be then go to the exact opposite place. Opus/Paul |

Title: Re: Need a better Geek than me to answer... Post by maffumatt on Mar 19th, 2005, 2:40am Donna go to this link, http://www.pc-help.org/www.nwinternet.com/pchelp/security/issues/sharing.htm#solved it'll tell you everthing you need to know. Go to this page and follow the services advice, if you got the time it will let your pc run faster increase your RAM. http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm If you have any other services running beyond what he is showing inspect each one. Most will be your firewall and antiviris but check each one individualy. You may find malware this way. Shields up has a good port scan here is that link. https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 |
