Renee is having her surgery today. Lets all send vibes and prayers for a speedy, relatively painless recovery.

Renee just informed me that Anesthesiology screwed up and they have rescheduled her surgery for Friday morning.

Thanks all.

With it being spring break down here the surgeons "normal" crew was not going to be in on the surgery but the surgeon was comfortable with that, until no anesthesiologist showed up.

He walked in my room 1 hour after scheduled surgery time, with his scrubs on, and asked if I wanted to have surgery at 4 pm yesterday, have it now and just bite on a bullet or delay until Friday. He said his normal crew would be working Friday and he would prefer to wait and not do a late evening surgery anyway.

So, he said a prayer and sent me on my way home until tomorrow. I received a call later from the anesthesiologist that no showed. I was actually rather cool with it all. I look at it as divine intervention and yesterday was not meant for me to have surgery.

Tomorrow is just one more day and besides, I'm getting to drink coffee in the middle of night (right now).

Staying optimistic!

Surgery at 1 pm CST tomorrow, Friday. I will be in ICU Friday night but someone will update my ch family.

I'm all set and even heard from the anesthesiologist last night. It was the front desk at my surgeon's office that failed to get an anesthesiologist for Wednesday. I was told she was "new".

Today is a better day for surgery anyway and I'm more rested and hydrated.

You've been on my mind all day today Renee. :-/ You should be in recovery by now. :) Hope everything went well. It'd sure be a cool bonus if you not only had lost all back pain, but were CH free to boot! :D

Do like I said- while rehabing learn to tie flys. It'll give you an added extra to look forward to. I'm sure you'll be double haulin' in no time!

I just got off the phone with Amy, she hasn't had a chance to see Renee yet so a more detailed update will be posted later on this evening.

But so far, Renee is in recovery, there were no complications and she is doing fine.

I will post more as I hear it.

Renee is out of surgery and was in recovery at 5PM my time (6PM her time) My cellphone was breaking up, but the surgery went OK and she's doing as well as expected.

Just talked to them and Renee is "complaining" royally, so that's a really good sign.

Seems her biggest problem this morning is that she wants a cigarette and can't have one. :D

all in all, the surgery went well and she should be home by tomorrow (maybe). She's in a lot of pain right now, but that was to be expected.

Keep all your fingers crossed that this will help her headaches and when the old neck quits hurting - the headaches will not return for a long long time.

Keep the prayers up (for Amy). She's having to take care of Renee right now. ;;D

Seriously, this was a serious surgery and Renee came thru it like the trooper I knew she was. She's going to be "laid" up for a while so keep the vibes going out to her.

Just got off the phone with Renee,

Here's the scoop:

The surgery took 5 hours instead of the anticipated 2.
Her incision was 6 inches long instead of 2 as the doctor told her (they went in through the back of the neck).

They have her on morphine, oxycontin and steroids (she says the steroid make her mean~I told her everyone around her would understand and be forgiving).

She say she keeps spilling food (jello and broth) in her cervical collar (I told her they would probably give her a doggie bag if she asked for one ;) )

She should be out of the hospital tomorrow and then it is rehab at home. Keep sending vibes her way! I will do my best to keep y'all updated...

I spoke to Renee a little while ago and she will stay in the hospital tonight. She is still in a lot of pain, even though she has a duragesic patch and Actiq lollipops. She's feeling kind of down right now and could use a few extra prayers.

Got an update...
Renee will spend tonight in the hospital and the dr will replace staples and her collar in the morning. She's still in pain, but at least she slept last night. She sends hugs to all.
