Title: UPDATE on my kitty! Post by Renee on Mar 10th, 2005, 4:26am My prayers have apparently been answered regarding my cat that was diagnosed with bone cancer. After doing the biopsy and then a culture, there are no signs of cancer but rather a very rare bacterial infection in the joint of her ankle. She is being treated with antibiotics for a month. Hopefully this will do the trick and harden the bone up again. On a sad note, my female cockatiel, Gracie, passed on yesterday after 13 years of married bliss to George. George and Gracie raised 4 clutches throughout her life and I still have one of the offspring. George is being very vocal and now has a cage that has been redone as a bachelor pad with all new toys. The vet said he probably won't last 6 months as mating cockatiels usually pass rather quickly once they lose their spouse. Gracie headed to the Rainbow Bridge while cuddled in my arms in a towel. George asked to save all condolences and just send memorials to the "George wants more toys and treat sticks fund." ;) |

Title: Re: UPDATE on my kitty! Post by cootie on Mar 10th, 2005, 10:29pm Really great news about the kitty ! So glad she'll be ok.....much better news it is jus an infection. I lost my female cockatiel this fall and the male went on a RANT......he started this gawd aweful hair raisieing deafening PEEPING sound......it's a terrible and ear pierceing and he will go on and on for an hour. I bought him two parakeets soon after the female died.....both cockeatiels were only about 4 yrs old if that. He was hissing at me and attacking cuz I had to take her out. He is doin very good now.....he somewhat ignores the parakeets but he doesn't hurt them and they seem to of preoccupied him and kind of entertain him to where he is ok now. He still does the PEEPING thing when we get company but not as often and he quite being aggressive to me. So.....mite be an idea to think about. Jeepers Peepers Pam |

Title: Re: UPDATE on my kitty! Post by Renee on Mar 11th, 2005, 6:24am George is about to run everyone else out of the house with his screeching that goes on for hours. We got him a big 3 sided mirror so he could see himself and thought that might help along with the new toys but nothing is helping with the new found screeching. He is not calling for Gracie like when they would get separated while out of the cage but rather just squawking and screeching to the point I need cotton in the ears. I've always heard cockatiels mate for life. With him being almost 14 I doubt another "lady friend" would be accepted. He had a remaining daughter in a cage next to him and they have squawked to each other a bit, yesterday, but that is all. Maybe after a couple of weeks I will try putting Marty, (short for Martina) in with her Daddy for companionship if he will behave. Cotton in the ears, Renee |

Title: Re: UPDATE on my kitty! Post by cootie on Mar 11th, 2005, 12:10pm That's what mine did....was that screeching and then that gawd aweful deafening peeping ! The parakeet buddy really did shut him up.....he didn't pay THAT much attention to it but he was distracted at the same time and watched it play and stuff. So I got anouther keet on sale....they have buddied up and he is REAL quiet when they are chirping and singing and even tryin to imitate them now !! So I think it is working MENTALLY.....he is concentrateing on THEM now. He has NEVER tried to hurt them like you'd think or worry.....he's never been a mean bird but they have a strong bite and could snap a keet's leg. So anyhow......I'm not so sure he'll die without a mate cuz of how many people I know have birds and sold one or lost one and still have the other....but a buddy mite be a REALLY good idea !! Took mine a while to settle down and stop that screeching stuff tho but he wasn't near as bad within the week. Now he only seems to do the PEEP thing when strangers come over to look at pups in here and 'stay too long'........hee-hee-hee......I've even mentiond to a few he does that and once he started in I HOPED they took the hint !! I also have him by a window....anuther good thing to try ! Good luck !!! People peeper Pam |
