Title: Gimme a Break, huh?
Post by Gator on Mar 9th, 2005, 12:26am
I don't ask for much, but you'd think I could sit through one of my son's concerts without getting slammed. I get to hear him practicing here at home, but there are only about 4 or 5 concerts a year.  I go to his Winter Concert tonight and of course 3 minutes into the program, WHAM!  Luckily the trex worked quickly and it was a long program.

My son got publicly recognized tonight for scoring a Superior in the Solo & Ensemble Contest he competed in this past weekend.  He's wanting to go to Juliard.  Talent-wise he might could make it.  His primary instrument is the basson, an instrument that relatively few people play and he is very good.  That is in his favor.  He also plays the flute, piccolo, clarinet, oboe, baritone sax, tenor sax and the English horn.  Money-wise, we're hoping he'll settle for a local state college and that he gets a healthy scholarship.

That stinks, Mike.  >:(
What a proud Daddy you are...he's a lucky kid.  :)
Let's hope we figure this thing out in time for one of his Julliard concerts.  [smiley=hug.gif]

Anyone who has a bassoon laying around should donate it to this kid...he is super talented and is having to use a "crappy one" the school is loaning him....anyone know of any companies that donate music equipment to kids?

He IS super talented, just like Daddy Gator says!

Sorry you got slammed, Gat...but glad the Trex worked!

I am so sorry that the devil had the nerve to show up while you were enjoying your son's concert... :( I am glad that meds worked, though.  And what a talented musician your son is! :)  Impressive.

Best wishes to you both,
Sandie

Mike,

That sucks getting slammed like that while you are watching your son perform. I'm glad the trex helped you out.

I hope your son gets a full scholarship to any School he wants to go to. It's great to hear that he's so talented on so many instruments.

Pat

Thanks all.  I was glad the trex worked as well as it did.  I really enjoy hearing him play with the entire Ensemble.  It's been interesting watching the whole group progress.  He gets a kick out of knowing we are there to support him.  He walks out onto the stage and quickly scans the crowd.  When he sees us, he gits this little smile on his face.  So do I.  Of course, I love it when Zack gets solo parts.  Sitting there listening to other parents who don't know who I am say how good he is kind of puffs out the chest a bit.  Yeah, you could say I am quite the proud papa.
