Title: now it happened
Post by sandie99 on Mar 2nd, 2005, 1:52am
So now it has happened. My mum is retired.

She's had pretty nice week so far! 147 colleagues and ex-colleagues turned up with cards, gifts and flowers to her reception. We're out of space where to put all the stuff... and we have 17 buckets of flowers all around.

Mum got plates, glasses, candles, books, blankets, scarf, season tickets to the opera, movie tickets, lamp, watch, wine bottles, paintings, silverware... she grinned that she doesn't have to buy gifts in a long time! ;;D

3 colleagues have booked time to take her to lunch. And today she's going to a meeting with other retired ladies from the same company. A pretty nice sailoff.

I'm glad that she got to leave in style. She deserved it. Her boss didn't appreciate the hard work she did for years. Now mum can do everything she has planned to do for years but "her job got into the way" as she put it. ;;

I'm happy for her. But I've got that feeling that she's going to be a busy woman... She's already planning a trip with her sister. :)

Congrats MOM. On the retirement and on the decision to live a full life after.

Does Mom still have hubby around? If not you might be looking at step dad in the future! Way to go Mom.

No, my dad passed away in 1997. I've been thinking about that stepdad issue. It'll happen one day. If mom is like her kidsister -who found another man to her life 10 years after her husband's death - stepdad will enter the scene in 2007. But who knows? Now she has time i her hands... Who knows, there might be nice men at the local Red Cross she just volunteered...

My Mom remarried at age 75...I told him..."I'm NOT calling you Daddy!" LOL
It's never too late.

It's never too late... I just wish that mom doesn't remarry before I get married for the first time! ;)

Tell her to enjoy herself. If her company is like the idjits i work for everyone that retires looks and feels 10 years younger within a year  ;;D

Hmmm... wonder what age my mum looks like if she'll look soon younger. She'll turn 61 in May but she looks like 47 already. Few years and I'll look older than her! ;;D
