Title: Oscars! Post by sandie99 on Feb 28th, 2005, 3:28am What did you think about the Oscars this year? I woke up at 1am to watch it live... :) I'm bit Oscar nut... ;;D I was bit dissapointed this year actually. I was glad that The Aviator picked many awards, but Martin Scorsese would have deserved one, too. And Sideways should have got more than just for screenplay! Cate Blancett was great in The Aviator and I have liked many performances by Morgan Freeman, but I am not that convinced about Jamie Foxx and Hilary Swank. In both categories there were other amazing performances which should have been acknowledged instead. Well, that's the way it goes. I don't know if it was just the broadcast here or did the Oscars have technical problems every once in a while? The sound cracked couple times. And I noticed few mistakes, too: it was easy to see people running away from the stage when the show was back and there were empty seats in the audience... I still haven't decided what to think about Chris Rock. He was funny in the beginning, but not hilarious. What came to the rest of the show, his punchlines were bit lost as he announced the next award streight away. But he had his moments. :) Anyways, that's what I thought. I'm still going to beg that someone would tape the shorter version for me as I don't have VCR. Best wishes & PFday, Sandie |

Title: Re: Oscars! Post by ExplodingEyeBall on Feb 28th, 2005, 10:31am I can proudly say that at the age of 42, I have still never bothered to watch the Oscars. It was on at the same time as the NASCAR race yesterday. Priorities have to be seen to. |

Title: Re: Oscars! Post by Tiannia on Feb 28th, 2005, 11:24am Oscars are not my thing. I'd rather watch the SAG awards. It is a bit more real as people are getting awards from thier peers and not the artcie community around the world. You can see that the actors have more fun there and it means more. |

Title: Re: Oscars! Post by Gator on Feb 28th, 2005, 4:35pm Hardly ever go to the movies or even rent them to watch at home. I think the last movie I saw in a theater was Jurassic Park 3. Don't remember what the last movie I saw at home was. Never have had the compunction to watch the oscars, the grammys or any other awards show. Probably 75% or more of today's so-called "stars" could walk up to me and ask for a light and I wouldn't recognize them. |

Title: Re: Oscars! Post by Lizzie2 on Feb 28th, 2005, 5:52pm I like movies, and I watch movies at home by owning them or renting them or watching tv movies all the time, but I like the more traditional type stuff. I love Tom Hanks. I can watch his movies around the clock and never get bored. There's some other people like that too. As far as the arts...I dunno... Guess I was never a big fan of the "artsy high society of Hollywood" because I'm a classical musician...and we don't go places in Hollywood... Gotta go to NYC for stuff like that. :) Culture at its finest (can you hear me talking through my nose? LMAO) I almost fell out of my bed when I saw a piano quintet performing one night on Jay Leno! I love classical piano and the symphony most of the time...if a guy wanted to win me over...2 tickets to a classical pianist at the Kimmel Center without me having to ASK him to do it...that would be it for me!! hehehehe Most of the time I feel like I'm dragging my dates through the mud if I take them to a piano recital. But...you guys saw my pictures and heard my music online...doesn't it sound fun??? Anyways back to the Oscars... I thought a few of the dresses were very pretty. Chris Rock is hilarious but sometimes a little too racial for my tastes. It makes it just that much harder to work in the city (especially right now in the free clinics) when there are constantly so many more jokes that divide us racially. Man...I'm thinking way too deep about a tv awards show. But hey...that's me for ya ;-) Time to go write a research proposal on care for babies in drug withdrawal...and then practice piano! woohoo!! Lizzie :) |

Material words Pam Did anyone see the item on ebay this weekend that was a black guy sellin himself (that's pretty much how the item read).....two phone calls, emails and "one pic of him doing WHATEVER' you want" sent to the winning bidder. Cracked me up ! |

Title: Re: Oscars! Post by Jayne on Mar 1st, 2005, 7:37am my favorite moment was right at the end where you could obviously see Dustin Hoffman getting annoyed with the ever annoying Barbara Striesand. She was being such a freak. Asking Dustin to say all her lines for her, but she wanted to do the all important "and the oscar goes to" and poor Dustin could not hide his annoyance. I loved it. |

Title: Re: Oscars! Post by Drk^Angel on Mar 1st, 2005, 8:06am Actually... The Auto Club 500 was over just prior to the Oscar's pre-show "look at us, we're pretty" BS... But then again... I don't have cable, so I don't get to watch the post-race stuff... :( Didn't watch the Oscars either though, but from what I've heard, I didn't miss much... PFDAN................................... Title: Re: Oscars! Post by lionsound on Mar 1st, 2005, 7:55pm I confess..I did watch...we watch it like a sport....give the actors points..subtract movie contracts.... My 10 year old son caught a glimpse of the red carpet stuff on his way upstairs. This actress was wearing a blue shiny tight fitting strapless dress that flared out at the bottom. He says, without pause,"SHE LOOKS LIKE A FISH!" then he watches a few more minutes and says, "they all look like fish, why do all the ladies look like fish?" (I couldn't answer cuz I was rolling on the floor) My favorite Chris Rock line... I couldn't believe he said it....that no one seemed to hear...he was introducing Selma Hayak and Penelope Cruz (sp? Like I know who they are Lol) and he says .."you will enjoy these next four presenters very much." |

I loved it this year! I think my favorite Chris Rock line had to be "When he's not dazzling us with his acting he's boring us with his politics, lets hear it for Tim Robbins." I just found that ultra funny! Anyone who glues their eyes shut to get into the role of a blind man, and pulls it off - Gets my vote anyday! And Clint vs Scorsese? Who would you rather fuck with - red eye or dead eye? 'Nuff said! Peace, CD |
