Yes, it's a real sport, and no, he's not being pulled out. He's winching himself over a rock shelf, after which, he will continue on.

ESPN occasionally has rock-crawling competitions being broadcast...

What does "In Vinculis Etiam Audax" mean?

I took 2 hellish years of Latin in high school, but I can't decipher.
