Title: Soldier!!!! Post by Jonny on Feb 12th, 2005, 11:17pm http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v451/jonny68/image0011.jpg This statue currently stands outside the Iraqi palace, now home to the 4th Infantry division. It will eventually be shipped home and put in the memorial museum in Fort Hood,Texas. The statue was created by an Iraqi artist named Kalat, who for years was forced by Saddam Hussein to make the many hundreds of bronze busts of Saddam that dotted Baghdad. Kalat was so grateful for the Americans liberation of his country; he melted 3 of the heads of the fallen Saddam and made the statue as a memorial to the American soldiers and their fallen warriors. Kalat worked on this memorial night and day for several months. To the left of the kneeling soldier is a small Iraqi girl giving the soldier comfort as he mourns the loss of his comrade in arms. Do you know why we don't hear about this in the news? Because it is heart warming and praise worthy. The media avoids it because it does not have the shock effect that a flashed breast or controversy of politics does. But we can do something about it. We can pass this along to as many people as we can in honor of all our brave military who is making a difference. Thank you!! ..............................jonny |

Title: Re: Soldier!!!! Post by Gator on Feb 13th, 2005, 12:34am I love the memorial. The story accompanying it is touching, but the details are questionable. http://www.snopes.com/photos/military/kalat.asp |

Title: Re: Soldier!!!! Post by sandie99 on Feb 13th, 2005, 2:47am my former lecturer at the university of westminter in uk told me that when there's a war, the first casualty is always the truth. journalists usually have restricted access and they are shown the things the army wants them to see... |

As far as I'm concerned? No. The man could have refused to make it, but he didn't. Regardless, it's a fitting memorial to fallen comrades created from melted down statues of the a$$hole that they helped remove from power. Like I said, I love it. |

Or in the case of the liberal American media, warps the truth around to what they want you to see and believe - or just doesn't report it at all. There are plenty of good things going on in the world that are never shown by the main stream media. Soldiers are coming home and seeing the news and saying that the way they are portraying it is all wrong. Like when the soldier killed the wounded, unarmed man in the mosque. The media played that up really big here, but they failed to show why it happened. They didn't report the fact that the terrorists are booby trapping their own bodies with explosives and lying in wait for a group of soldiers to come close enough to take them out. They made little to no mention of the fact that the soldier was wounded just the day before in a fire fight or that he had been on the move all night and all that day. With the odd exception, the only thing that gets reported is the stuff that reflects poorly on this country. That is why so many people are turning to other sources for their news other than ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN. The main stream media has lost a good deal of their credibility. There was a time long gone by where it was said, "If the New York Times printed it, it must be true." Now you read the Times and say, "Wow, if that's true it's terrible." |

If the media would do more stories like this then maybe just maybe more folks would support the fight for freedom the way they should. Title: Re: Soldier!!!! Post by Redneck on Feb 13th, 2005, 9:30pm I had already seen this, thought it was great. Our so called "media" suks! I think Merle Haggard said it best - I hear people talkin' bad, About the way we have to live here in this country, Harpin' on the wars we fight, An' gripin' 'bout the way things oughta be. An' I don't mind 'em switchin' sides, An' standin' up for things they believe in. When they're runnin' down my country, man, They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me. Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me. Runnin' down the way of life, Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep. If you don't love it, leave it: Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'. If you're runnin' down my country, man, You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me. I read about some squirrely guy, Who claims, he just don't believe in fightin'. An' I wonder just how long, The rest of us can count on bein' free. They love our milk an' honey, But they preach about some other way of livin'. When they're runnin' down my country, hoss, They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me. Nuff Said |
