Hi All

Thought i'd run this past you and see what responce there is.
I am into about my 6/7 th week and have been using my Tens machine for relieving the ganglion lump in my neck with a great deal of success, I started two weeks ago and dropped the pain killers at the same time.

I have found that I can get quicker pain relief ( half an hour to one hour to take effect) rather than up to four hours with the pain killers.

The tens goes straight to work on the ganglion lump and gradually works it's way toward the front of the head reducing the pain as it goes.

I must stress that I have been trained in the use of this machine and would not recomend that you run out and try it yourself without consulting your Doctor or Physio.

Also by not taking pain killers I have the pleasure of not having to put up with the never ending constipation they cause.

Anyone tried this before I'd love to hear your views.

Up to four hours? Constipation? Did they prescribe narcotics? Abortives like oxygen and injectable triptans are generally quick acting.

If the TENS works, great. There was some discussion a while ago, not sure what others reported, but my concern was that the source of the pain was fairly deep AND close to the brain or in the brain. If you can successfully get at it indirectly through a ganglion in your neck, then that is a good thing - sort of an electronic nerve block.

Yes when the real savage ones attack usually in the second through to the fourth week it is generally for around four hours even with the pain killers.

The pain killers used are off the shelf mix of codine phosphate 8mg & asprin 300mg, six of straight up and if that dosn't work in a reasonable time followed up with prescription ones paracetemol 500mg & codene phosphate 30mg, I really dont think these where doing any good anyway.
The constipation comes from the ammount of meds taken.

Most Doctors in Aust arn't real happy at giving out scripts for heavy meds if you can work through with general meds and I was born with only one kidney so i'm not real keen on taking a lot of meds anyway.

The tens takes the tightness out of the ganglion area and the rest of the muscles leading to the frontal lobe area thus relieving the pain.
The tens will only work on inflamed or damaged muscle and tissue and won't go near anything healthy.

I doubt it, I just read up on that machine I can't imagine it working on any kind of headache much less a CH. [smiley=huh.gif]

Tens machines.....for clusterheadaches.... [smiley=huh.gif] Barry I would strongly suggest you get a second opinion if you have been diagnosed with clusterheadaches, just my humble opinion of course.....

Thank for the feedback people.

As for the diognosis I can only go on what my doctor has told me and by going through the cluster quiz everything points to CH.

I had the same thing about three years ago with exactly the same reaction but had no idea what it was, I was only diognosed this time around after the Doctor saw me going through an attack.

Im going to the big smoke in a couple of months and hope to be able to see a specialist then.

If its not CH then maybe there's a chance of a reprieve from hell.
