Title: Any CH'ers in the San Francisco Area?
Post by Langa on Feb 2nd, 2005, 9:15am
I'll be travelling to San Francisco for business sometime next month and wanted to know if there were any CH'ers in the area.

Also, I've never been to California, so while in the SF area, any nice places to eat, visit, stay???  I'll be there about 3-4 days.

Something very boring...DESIGN CONTROL. It's a big part of my job and I'm going for advanced training.

So have some sweet vermouth waiting for me as I'll need it after that...and if I scream that i'm drowing, don't worry, but make sure to send one of the lifeguards my way... ;;D

Go to Fishermans Warf, a fun place to visit.
Have some great clam chowder and sourdough bread.
I grew up 100 miles south of the City, in the Monterey Bay area.
Have a great time, other than the boring convention thingy.
Wish I could join you.

Langa,

I live in the city.  additionally, Shawn (Fubar), Virginia (9nerFan) and Bob (BikerBob) all live locally.  Maybe we could do a drinks/dinner thing?  Check you PM's, and I'll give you my numbers.

Regards,

Chris

LOL  Don't be thinking you're gonna sit on some warm beach soaking up some rays in SF and I dare you to jump in the water.  I made that mistake back in 1986.  My ex and I were on vacation and drove through SF.  Found a place to park close to the water not too far from the Golden Gate bridge.  Me being the lover of water that I am, stripped my shirt off and ran to the water and dove in.  :o  BRRRRR!

Is it always like that? or is it because of the time of year I'm going?  [smiley=huh.gif]

I live on the coast 200 miles south of SF.  The warmest our ocean water gets, in the middle of summer, is the low 60's.  Definately wetsuit temps.

Today is sunny, 75 degrees, shorts and tee-shirts weather.  When summer comes and it warms up inland, the hot air rises and sucks the fog onto the coastline.

Today I live in Los Osos.  In July I live in Fog Osos.

Make sure you have a car with an automatic transmission.  A standard transmission is a major pain in the butt.  Some of the streets are on major inclines and you have to stop at a stop sign while on a big hill.  Going downhill - not such a problem.  Going uphill - sheesh!

Gator,

I live less than 50 feet from the top of the highest hill in SF.  After 20 years of driving standard transmission cars, I bought my first automatic a couple of years ago after I bought my house.  I couldn't deal with the white knuckle, stuck at a red light on a hill, burning the clutch, and praying that I don't roll backwards stuff anymore...Good advice

San Francisco. Now there is the place for a July convention. I vote for 06 in SF.

Uh...the only people I've ever seen dive into the bay are Kim Novak and Jimmy Stewart in Vertigo. They never found the guy that tried to escape from Alkatraz. Brrrrr.

It was a lovely 66 degrees in the city by the bay.....and yes, it was SUNNY.  It's been great here for the past 3 days.

The only problem with coming this time of year is we get a lot of rain.  You never know, could be really beautiful...could be raining.  But you're not going to get fog & cold....we save that for July & August.

One of those things you do when you're young, dumb and full of, well...you know.  I was thinking California = warm water.  Trust me - NOT something I would do again.  On the other hand, it must have been fun to watch.  My ex was rolling.

Okay, so except for the weather and no swimming and needing automatic transmission cars, it is a fun place right??  :-/ LOL
