Title: Movies can inspire
Post by sandie99 on Feb 1st, 2005, 3:53am
I went to see Shall We Dance last weekend with my friends. It did not only cheer me up by it inspired me, too.

Watching Richard Gere & co dance made me want to take up dancing again! Used to take ballet lessons when I was a kid and loved it. I have danced in several occasion since, but I haven't had the excitement I once had.

Until now, that is! I'm going to find out if there are some dancing lessons starting soon... If there isn't, I'll just play some good music in my room and dance on my own. :)

PFdays to everyone,
Sandie

Glad you found this one inspiring rather than one about Lizzie Borden or Jack the Ripper.   8)

Not sure if I know this one but then I never see movies until they come out on cable.

The Richard Gere film is a remake of a Japanese movie "Shall We Dance, Mr. Sugimoto" - which was very good.  I haven't seen the Hollywood remake but I would reccomend the original if you liked the other.

This is gonna sound corny but you said inspire. I love, love love music even though I don't play or sing (only to myself) but I love the movie Mr Hollands Opus. Mostly because of the music in it but the relationship with his son too.

I didn't see the article...wished I had. I agree with her statement. Perfection is extremely over rated since it is completely unattainable. A great personality, attitude, and zest for life go much farther than the complete lack of physical "defects". YMMV.

The House of Sand and Fog was indeed a very powerful movie. If you liked it, you should read the book. It draws you in, like a train wreck and even though you're devastated at the end...it was worthwhile.

There's a difference between pretty and sexy. An example: Jaclyn Smith. Pretty but to me, not at all sexy.
Jamie Lee Curtis, Not as beautiful but incredibly sexy.
I will admit that Sandra Bullock is right on the line here though.

I spent quite a bit of time with Sandra Bullock while filming Speed II in St. Maarten. Terrible movie but a great experience.
She's a real normal person but incredibly sexy and very smart. She had Jason Patrick like a little puppy dog. It was hilarious.
The sexiest person on the set was Sandras stunt double. WOW!

Title: Re: Movies can inspire
Post by PrettyH8Machine on Feb 2nd, 2005, 8:21am
How ironic. Jamie Lee Curtis has always been my fave actress (Miss Legs!!!!) She was classic in the first "Halloween" movie, and another obscure fave was an early 80's movie called "Terror Train." I really like Meg Ryan too. Though I think Heather Locklear is a knockout - she just can't act her way out of a paper bag!

My favorite actor though is without a doubt David Morse. What is funny is, most people don't even know who he is, though he has been in like a zillion movies (The Green Mile, The Langoliers, Contact, The Good Son, The Rock, and 12 Monkeys to name a few.) He even had a series on for a couple of years recently called "Hack" which I thought was pretty cool.

Ditto on Pay It Forward. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Rocky movies and that theme song. That movie makes me want to put on a sweat suit, drink raw eggs and go for a long run. Well... maybe a short run or better yet a slimfast and a martial arts or dance class. Who am I kidding -  nothing beats a good candy bar or chocolate cake. I had Portillo's chocolate cake last night. mmmm

By the way Sandie, I think it's great that you are looking into dance classes. There are plenty of ballroom studios out there and there are probably some studios near you that have adult ballet classes. I teach Jazz and Ballet but I really want to learn some Latin. It looks so fun!

Karla,
I loved Pay it Forward, too... I have the book also!  :)
I also love The Hours, WonderBoys & Patch Adams. They all have a message to me.
