Title: Cluster Pilots
Post by ozzy on Jan 31st, 2005, 1:52pm
Any pilots (sport, private, commercial, etc) out there?

I have the opportunity of getting my private pilots license this year. Part of the process includes a Medical Certificate.

Disqualifying illnesses include migraines and CH (actually they are in the same category)

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks.

Ozzy

...don't tell 'em

...on the other hand: we'd fucking HATE to hear of your untimely demise while operating one of those *Mechanisms of The Devil*..... (if God wanted us to fly, He'd have given us First Class tickets...)

edited to say: GO for it...

Since they kept telling me for years I was having bad sinus headaches. CH was never mentioned in my physical.
For some reason I never remember to bring it up when I have a flight physical these days.
My memory isn't what it used to be I guess. [smiley=ops.gif]

Pivot pilot here, I forget just how they put it but in any case false or misleading information on the application is a violation of federal law, subject to bla bla bla. In any case this sort of thing is not for the rich but the wealthy. So don't spend alot of money on something you may not be able to use much.

My Neuro filed with the FAA just last week. It's not only the condition, but the nedications that cause the problem. I can take another physical in a year if I'm not on my current meds. (Topamax)
One more thng that CH has taken from me.
I loved flying.

I've heard say that CH affects ones memory.

Cant remember who said it though.

Well for all you private pilots and any comercial pilots if you see me boarding your plane and you are in cycle let me know before I board...If you happen to be flying over my house while in cycle..... DON'T! If you do fly over my house while in cycle and crash I refuse to help you and to paraphrase my 4 year old "Seeeee I toooolld Youuuu!"

Yeah - what they said!  Bad enough for those of us that are white knuckle fliers but now we have to worry that our pilot may not be able to pilot.  Yikes!

Flying is very cool.  I have about 50 hours in and I love it a lot.  I wouldn't tell anyone.  You have your meds and if you get a CH, you can deal with it and move on.  1 thing I would advise is that you carry Imitrex with you to make sure you can battle a CH if 1 came along.  If you were up there and got a bad CH with no meds, you probably wouldn't have to worry about CH's anymore.
Be safe!

I am not a pilot but i am a enginner for the railroad. They were aware of me having ch's but it didn't effect me getting hired. To be honest I doubt they new what they were. I think they thought they were migranes. Most people never heard of ch's. Or don't know how severe they are. So don't mention it. Just carry your trex w/ you at all times. And maybe make sure you have the auto pilot option. HA! I just shoot up the minute I think I feel one coming on, so that way there is no chance of me getting debilated.

Yeah but what if you were up there and had an attack but had a BAD reaction to the trex ? Jus a thought......please don't come DOWN on me Pam (as in crash)

Somehow, my faith in public transportation just took a nosedive. It's that 5 minute kick in window that keeps me on my toes.
Cluster Pilots.
Alex, I'll take Fatal Mistakes for $1,000

The thing is that it's harder on co-pilots. They'd probably be beaten to a pulp while assisting the pilot.

Getting a CH attack while flying isn't so much a problem, I think they have things called auto pilots on small planes too don't they?  What worries me is the taking off and landing thing during a CH....now that's kinda scary.

Do whatcha gotta do, but remember:

If yer gonna be stupid, ya gotta be tough.

Lets see,

FAA regs.- can't comply unless you lie
Physical - won't pass
Flying while getting hit - impossible
Potential risk to yourself and others - high

Fly a simulator!

Besides flying is no big thing. Just another form of transportation.

Thx for all the replies. BTW noone, not a single person should worry about flying Ozzy-Air. No commercial intentions, just private pilot for my job (Contractor support to the FAA).

If I'm current on my meds, no big hits here, mostly shadows and k-5, not too hard to deal.

All in all I'm a Philly sports fan, I'm used to getting my hopes up and then destroyed at the last minute. At least it gives me something to bitch about.

Send vibes   ::)

I don't want to scare any of you, but I have also been thinking (for many years) about getting my pilot's license.  I wondered about the headaches.  Now I know to conveniently forget about putting that down ...

Chuck

PS:  If I ever do go for it, I will give y'all fair warning before I fly ...

Good advice Don.

Wait for a CH to start ramping up. When you get to a KIP5 hop on the simulator. While you're controlling the plane take, your meds and begin your descent. If you can bring that big bird down without crashing you pass round one.

Good Luck.

Attention passengers at Gate 11:

Your flight will be temporarily delayed. The pilot has put his head through the planes windshield......... Again.

Attention Passengers.

Unfortunately there will be a further delay. Our Captain is on the phone with his insurance company. Expected delay will be 6 hours.
