Title: My insurance company... Post by ExplodingEyeBall on Jan 26th, 2005, 10:00am BITES, SUCKS, BLOWS, SWALLOWS, GARGLES!!!!!!!!!!! First of all... These bastards want me to pay (out of my own pocket) a little over $1200.00 (<--- not a typo) a month for family insurance coverage. That doesn't really leave much to live on. To add insult to injury, I went to the doc yesterday and told him I want to quit smoking. He said "GREAT!!!". He wrote me a scrip for Welbutrin. And since he knows I've been smoking since 7th grade, he thought it might be a good idea to get me some Nocotrol inhalers so I don't strangle anyone while I'm going through this. This is where the insurance company starts sucking hard and loud. My $25.00 copay on the Welbutrin is not a problem with me. I know the stuff is expensive. BUT..... They will only let me have 30 instead of the 60 that the doc wrote the scrip for. Now I have to get a pre-aouthorization through for that. Now it gets worse. Nicotrol inhalers are going to cost me $145.00 for the 168 cartride srip the doc wrote me and THE GREEDY BASTARD INSURANCE COMPANY WON'T PAY A PENNY OF IT!!!!!!!!! It seems to me that if I was responsible for paying major medical expenses, I would happily pay for the medication that is needed to help my customers quit the most un-healthy habit on earth. I have decided that since I have a copay of $25.00 for the Welbutrin no matter where I go, I'm going to shop around first and go to the place that charges the most for it. As far as the inhalers... I guess I'll have to strangle some people along the way because I can't afford that crap. OK... ;;D I feel better now. Thanks for letting me rant. Pat. BTW: I'll throw away the pack that's in my pocket as soon as I start the medication. I promise. |

Title: Re: My insurance company... Post by AlienSpaceBabe on Jan 26th, 2005, 10:06am Isn't it amazing what the insurance companies can get away with?! Good luck quitting... I know you can do it..... I used suckers/lollipops to help me when I quit smoking... needed to keep my mouth busy. Also, as odd as it sounds, pretending that I'm holding a cigarette and inhaling it helped too (although I looked even more abnormal than usual). YOU CAN DO IT! Lizzie |

Title: Re: My insurance company... Post by Bethany1 on Jan 26th, 2005, 10:10am You would think that the insurance company would be happy to supply you with quitting smoking aids, considering the long term effects of smoking, and what they will have to dish out later. That doesnt seem right to me. I think there is something you can do about it. Whats your insurance company? I hate insurance too, they all suck. Well, some people have good luck. I have to say tho, ANY insurance is a pain in the ass. Homeowners--if you EVER have a claim, your rates go ski high, and then they kick you off. Car---From what I have gone through the past month, I can't even begin to tell you. They thought I stole my own car, had me investigated, etc. Ya, like I want my 2002 hyundai sonata stolen with christmas gifts, wedding photos, and everything else in there 3 days before christmas. A$$holes. Health --nothing is covered, dropped me down to 1 box of imitrex per 30 days. Whateva ::) Anyways, pat, sorry for what your going through. I am happy your quitting smoking tho. Your much better off. |

Title: Re: My insurance company... Post by Melissa on Jan 26th, 2005, 10:25am Shit Pat, go buy yourself a 70lb weight bag to hang in the basement or outside on the clothesline, etc. Then whenever you feel that urge well up inside you where you could just SCREAM, go pound the shit out of it. I split my knuckles many times doing just that. I gotta get hubby to hang it back up in the basement again (he took it down when we did our addition) cause I still do need to just "get it out" sometimes... :-/ :)mel |

Title: Re: My insurance company... Post by ExplodingEyeBall on Jan 26th, 2005, 10:42am I've already got the "Idiots guide to quitting smoking". I've started going through it. I've gotten some good ideas out of there already. BTW: UnitedHealthCare insurance sucks!!!!!!! I've been on their plan for about 5 years with the only claims beeing my EEG/other crap at the neuro and having a mole removed. They also want to charge me almost $15,000 a year to insure my whole family. Now these bastards don't want to help me quit smoking. I'm so pissed at them. What a f*****g bunch of thieves. They make you pay through the nose for coverage and then tell you that you can't have what you need. AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I NEED TO STRANGLE SOMEONE NOW!!!!!! I"m still looking for the place with the highest prices for Welbutrin. |

Title: Re: My insurance company... Post by Biker on Jan 26th, 2005, 2:20pm Insurance companies are gonna milk your hard earned bucks till the day ya die. They become fairly wealthy while we still grow older--and ill. They have learned to scare folks into paying bucks----and the bottom line is the dark beyond. Face the fact-----none of us are getting out of this and still survive. Its called life. Life is a terminial disease. Healthcare costs have soared -friggin gone off the map- in the past 40 years. Doctors use to make housecalls. Doctors use to help sick folks. These days, ya have to have an appointment to see a doctor, then ya are lucky to get interviewed by his/her nurse. Those interviews only raise the cost of your insurance premium. Todays docs live off us ill folks. They call us back again and again to attempt to "cure" us of our ailments. I lean hard toward the dislikement of the thought, but truth be known----It seems best to head toward a major population area and become cured of an ailment, than it is to see a personal doc. We have turned into cattle in the professions eyes. Get em in, milk em, get em out. Bucks bucks bucks. Play golf. Get laid. Bucks bucks bucks. We have, (USA) hundreds of thousands of folks who claim themselves as indigent. They dont pay for medical practice. Cannot afford medical service. The numbers are more likely in the millions. The doctors refuse to work unless they are well paid. That leaves the insurance companies footing a bill so some so called "intelligent" doctor can go play golf on a beach. All the while--- the "good ole rich doctors" are out having a hoot, the population is dealing with the memory of young, healthy life. And insurance companys refuse to comply. All is well in the USof A. I think the socialized medicine of the rest of the planet is in order here also. Let them doctors drive fords instead of mercedes. |

Title: Re: My insurance company... Post by Charlie on Jan 26th, 2005, 6:33pm I know what you mean....it never ends. Filing a greivance worked a couple of times for me. My insurance makes me pay a larger co-pay on my anti-convulsant. I told them fine so long as they pay for my broken legs and hospital stays when have a seizure and get hit by a bus. Answer: Firebomb. Title: Re: My insurance company... Post by Tim_Z on Jan 26th, 2005, 6:33pm Pat I'm not sure I will ever quit. I did for over a year once, that's my record. About a year ago I went to the Dr. to quit. He gave me some script that recovering alcoholics use. Wellbutrin is out of the question. That didn't work. Here's the kicker, my insurance didn't pay for any of it, the visit to the Dr.'s office or the meds. They said it was not an official medical claim, WTF? The premium for my family is $865 a month, unreal, and it goes up every year. They wonder why people lose it? What a crock of shit. Tim |

Title: Re: My insurance company... Post by ExplodingEyeBall on Jan 27th, 2005, 10:12am Tim, I can't affor family coverage on our plan. It would cost over $1,200.00 a month. That's a major part of my salary. Is it any wonder that people need 2 jobs to survive? I also found out just a minute ago that neither one of the scips the doc wrote for me are covered. One costs $145.00 and the other costs $180.00. It looks like I will be continuing my 1 1/2 pack a day habit and letting the insurance company pick up the cost of a heart attack or lung cancer instead. What a load of crap. INSURANCE COMPANIES SUCK!!!!!!!! |

Title: Re: My insurance company... Post by nani on Jan 27th, 2005, 10:15am Pat...Wellbutrin (Zyban, bupropion) is an antidepressant...most ins companies pay for depression treatment. Aren't you feeling really depressed? Waking up in the middle of the night? Appetite changes? Lost interest in stuff? You should see your dr about this depression!!! ;) |

Title: Re: My insurance company... Post by cat14 on Jan 27th, 2005, 10:19am Pat, STOP IT RIGHT NOW!!! You can do it, if you think like that you will never. Drugs are only for the physical part of it and that is only 4 days tops after that it is all mental. Then you need to stay very very busy for about 2 weeks and then you will see how much better you feel. The urge last for years but not bad. Come on, I know you can do it!!!! I did it and you are so much stronger and I am. Okay I'll shut now, but I just care :'( |

Why in the hell didn't I think about that? [smiley=hammer.gif] Thanks. I'm writing a very Cat.. I wish I could just stop right now. I have tried multiple times recently to just stop and have had no success at all. You're talking to a 42 year old who started smoking in 7th grade. If I have to go through it without some help, innocent people will be hospitalized. (Im kidding.) I am going to talk to the doc and see if there are any alternatives. In the mean time, It's time for a smoke break. [smiley=smokin.gif] |
