mmmm Lik-m-Aid, bubble gum cigars and cigarettes, Gold Mine gum (I bought some of that at Blockbusters before Christmas, actually - they were having a "retro" promotion  ::) - my daughter had never seen it!)

Your Smarties are sure different than our Smarties here in Canada.  Canadian Smarties ROCK!  They're similar to your M & M's, but way better.
http://www.nestle.ca/en/Products/Browse_by_Brand/Smarties.htm?view=BrandView

when you eat your Smarties, do you eat the red ones last?  (ok, I'm gonna have that song stuck in my head all the way to the store to buy Smarties now.)

I used to live right near the factory that made Lemonheads, Boston Baked Beans, Red Hots, and Atomic Fireballs.  You could tell what they were making that day.  The whole sky smelled like Lemon or Cinnamon...

Mmmm vig... Boston Baked Beans... an old favorite.

I live in fairly close proximity to Hershey.  Cocoa shell mulch is plentiful... the block smells like hot chocolate after a light rain.

I didn't realize just how regional some of this stuff was. There are a lot of things new to me and I should know it all at my age.

Does anyone remember some large sticks or bars of pretty tasteless taffy that ripped your teeth out every time you cracked off a piece? Strawberry, chocolate, and something else I thnk; probably vanilla.

I always had the little wax, juice-filled Coke bottles. Flavored wax moustaches were popular too. I loved Beemans Pepsin Gum!

Nice sight and I still buy a lot of the stuff pictured.

How about these?

And what was that sugary substance that looked like little colored sweet dots on a piece of paper?

Oh!!! Black Jack gum and candy.

Sh*t. Now you've got me started o this crap. I'm going to have to take my daughter to the candy store and introduce her to the candy I grew up on.

Does anyone remember a candy bar called 7-up? I used to love these. They had 7 different sections to it and each section had a diffrent kind of filling. If I could find some of these, I'd buy a whole case and O.D. on them.

Great site. I just may have to place an order.  8)

How to eat a candy bracelet necklace:

1. Place one of those candy bracelets necklaces with the elastic string around your neck.

2. Wear candy bracelet necklace for approximately 1/2 hour making sure it gets real sticky.

3. When the sweat begins to make a permanent colored ring around your neck, remove bracelet necklace.

4. You now have both, a colored tattoo around your neck and sticky candy.

4. Eat such candy and wait for your parents to tell you to clean that mess off your neck.

Yummmmm.....   :P

lol. Did they make bracelets & necklaces ?

well, the candy necklace could be used as a right handy weapon if you held both sides of the string with your hands, then bit through the candy with your teeth... the other half would shoot accross the room...directly at your sister's head...not that I ever tried  ;;D

Wig wag toffee bars were my favorite [smiley=inlove.gif]

Oh this is great. Do y'all remember the little colored candies they looked like dots or pills and they were stuck to paper. You could just tear off the paper on the roll and get as many as you wanted. Later on urban legend said that unscrupulos people made LSD tabs that looked like  the candy and sold it to school children. What were they called. I liked the wax stuff with the liquid in them too. When I was a kid 5 cents could keep you sick for a week. It was really penny candy then. [smiley=hurl.gif] [smiley=lick.gif]

I don't remember the stories about those, but back in the 80's when my big kids were little there was panic about those kid tattoos. Supposedly, there were acid dealers giving them away to kids and the kids were tripping. I never quite believed that though. I've never known a drug dealer who just gave stuff away. It's possible some kid found his parent's blotter acid and just used it by mistake.

I remember Bonomos Turkish Taffy. Was it the stuff on a stick that came in a yellow & red wrapper? Not sure.

The tough taffy I was talking about came in large thin bars with not very colorful advertising. I bet it was local.

I remember Choo Choo Charlie but forgot what is was.

The song I remember was:

Choo Choo Charlie was a ??? something boy.
Choo Choo Charlie was a ??? something joy... perhaps

Aunt Helen used to sing it to me of course  8)

Wow....so much of the stuff you show or talk about is new to me. I wasn't aware of how regional candy was.

I'll have to do a search....

I never liked Good & Plenty. People only ate it in theaters here. Bleaugh.

Tootisie Pops...anyone?  (Not Tootsie Rolls but their chewy popsicles.

You are right too Charlie, I remembered that one too last night.  There were two advertising jingles.  They used one and then subsequently changed it to the one one you mentioned, you have the rhythm right and the words to that one were not as catchy, but the rhythm was better.  I remember that one too being used, the one I mentioned needed an updating so as to not get old and still capture attention on Saturday morning.  That song was a good one too.  Two different advertising campaigns to stay fresh and catchy as Choo Choo Charlie became better known after his introduction to kids and to remain in the spotlight.
