Title: A Crush... Post by Jeepgun on Jan 16th, 2005, 3:55pm Written many years ago (nevermind exactly how many!), for a woman that I had a crush on. We're still friends, this many years later... Cheap Wine After drinking lots of cheap wine with you, we could hold hands and dance through the high grass on the hill. I would ask you, under the twinkling summer stars, to marry me before we both burst out laughing. We could lie on your bed in our floppy woolly socks and sing silly songs all night, until the neighbors banged on the wall and threatened to call the police. We could quote Shakespeare to each other, make up jokes about Kerouac and Rilke and run through the rain to sit in the steaming cafe` and drink coffee together, talking for hours. And dreaming together, we could hold hands and soar through a vermilion sky ringing with spherical thunder to land soft and snuggleburrow smiling down into the quiet bosom of sleep. -Frank H. Title: Re: A Crush... Post by PittsburghJoe on Jan 16th, 2005, 8:37pm How about the unrequited kind of crush? (I don't title my poetry, for some reason) How do you do it? Innocent gestures that give me purpose And make my mind reel A lifting of finger A twitch of brow An irrelevant word I am yours and yours alone I cannot visit you In your chambers I become stumbling words Pauses that last a second too long And awkward gestures (Have you noticed?) I cannot stay away I must have my fix You are an addiction A dangerous obsession A puzzle I'll never be able to solve I have to go now I want to tell you I don't know how I don't dare Leaving is utter hell As I return to my private abyss Ignoring traffic as I see your face It's a miracle I'm not killed (WHY didn't I say something?) Home again And Alone Thoughts turn circles A swirling spiral escalator Leading only downward Fantasy is an escape But also a gruesome trap An inverted maze: One way in, many ways out But I choose to remain in its midst - Joe Pauley, 1989 |

Title: Re: A Crush... Post by PittsburghJoe on Jan 16th, 2005, 11:07pm Jeez, Frank, you flatter me. Nope, no website. Hell, I haven't written anything aince about 1991. Your Crush poem just made me think of that one, so I dug it out. Thanks for the kind words, all. I'm actually kinda embarrassed about my old writing. I read over it and it just seems so juvenile and angst-ridden. Could be that I'm too close to it, I dunno. Joe |
