OTHERWORLD

Swallowed by sleep to slip slide screaming down the
gullet of a dream
fading into eclipsed brownout and
moist smothering air

Breathing sky threatens to hurl
angry flaming stars to my feet
The endless dreary buildings of this
place rise high with writhing details that
fascinate and repulse me.

Hardscrabble dirt and talcum dust beneath my
boots rakes clouds about the legs of these
gray fatigues.
Glance worriedly at the vortex sky, and drop my eyes
to find a scarlet flower that has bravely
emerged from the cracked soil.

Reach down to caress the bloom as air raid sirens
wail deafening snapping me slamming me into bed.
Reach over to turn off the alarm clock and
watch open-mouthed,
as a single
red
petal
falls from my fingertips
tracing down slowly
to lie sweetly against the floor.

Nice Frank. Is that one of those dreams one is so happy to wake up from?

BTW- I must take this opportunity to say that Friday's depressing poem really touched me...and then I had to LOL about the twist the thread took. ;;D

:) Thanks, Nani. This poem is about the lines between dreaming and waking getting blurred... The dream in the poem is an actual dream that I had. Very strange...
