Title: Hiccup remedies please! Post by Kris_in_SJ on Jan 8th, 2005, 7:56pm Ok - it's probably the oldest question in the book, and it certainly doesn't compare to the old CH, but I've had the hiccups (sp?) for over 2 hours now. Lay those remedies on me please! Kris |

Title: Re: Hiccup remedies please! Post by LeLimey on Jan 8th, 2005, 7:57pm Get a pint glass of cold water or anything with a big rim (no NOT the toilet!!!) You need to do this leaning over a sink, now stick your chin in the water and drink from the far side of the glass. It is messy but it never fails for me! |

Title: Re: Hiccup remedies please! Post by Jeepgun on Jan 8th, 2005, 8:05pm Easier remedy: Fill a glass with water. Take a sip. Swallow. Take a breath in, then exhale. Take another sip. Swallow. and so forth and so on, until you have taken nine sips. Hiccups are caused by a spasming of the epiglottis. Swallowing, then breathing helps to regulate the opening and closing of it, thus ending the spasm. |

Title: Re: Hiccup remedies please! Post by Kris_in_SJ on Jan 8th, 2005, 8:13pm Thanks all - except for you Eric *smile* I'm off with a giant Margarita glass to hang over the sink and drink from the opposite side of the glass while gazing at a man with many tatoos and a bow in his hair. I'll follow this with a teaspoon of honey. If that does't help, I'll do the Jeep thing. Wish me luck! K. |

Title: Re: Hiccup remedies please! Post by Sylvan on Jan 8th, 2005, 8:16pm My old Russian Grandmother taught me this when i was young - and even though it sounds insane - it's always worked (and i've never hurt myself doing it) Put a knife point up in a glass of water. Now drink the water while holding the knife against the far side of the glass (so you don't end up with a knife in your forehead) A paring knife or a steak knife works best. Butter knives don't work and butcher knives are really dangerous for this. :D Another one i've heard is that yawning often stops them. Good luck! Anne |
