Title: The Edge Post by Jeepgun on Jan 6th, 2005, 8:52am Pulled from various dreams, plus an idea for a book that I wanted to write... The Edge Screaming through impossible curves, (The world is winding down) The desert hardpan spreads out miles below. (Like an old clock) The semi whines like a wounded animal. (Slowing down in its revolution around the Sun) Impossible speed (Pirate radio is the only media to talk about it) Wheel slippery with sweat. (Like cancer: If ignored, perhaps it will go away) Belly full of dread and sour with adrenaline. (Winding down) Precious, precious cargo: Whatever is it this time? Guns? Drugs? Computer chips? Missile parts? (Desperate deals with... God? Time) It doesn't matter. Nothing matters but the deadline. The Dead Line. (Days are getting longer. Nights too) Concentration acute enough to be painful. (Rain becoming a rare occurrence.) Wipe sweat from my eyes and hold my breath as (Mortality rates for ages 16~26 skyrocket) The big wheels slide and scramble for purchase on the Loose gravel of another corner. (Winding down, winding down, winding down) Pull another gear, slam the accelerator on the straight. Twelve hours to El Paso. Swift, merciless justice found in the barrel of a gun. The Dead Line. Downshift for the next curve, too hard on the brakes, crank The wheel hard left and feel the bottom drop out of my stomach as (The Dead Line) The rig jackknifes. Over the edge now, how strangely quiet suddenly, almost Peaceful, and lucid, all the way down... -Frank H. Weeden |

Title: Re: The Edge Post by Jeepgun on Jan 6th, 2005, 10:20am Thanks!! The dream it was based on: I dreamed I was driving a Mustang on a winding desert road that was cut into the side of a cliff. I had a friend with me, and he was telling me to be careful on the first two turns: The first was nearly a hairpin turn and very dangerous. The second was one that the cops frequently monitored. As I rounded the second one, the next corner was a gentle, sweeping curve with a turnout area and a guardrail, so my friend said, "Okay, dude! Nail it!!" I did, and suddenly, I found myself hanging by one hand from the guardrail, that had been bent outward, so that it was parallel with the desert floor below. The car was stopped and my friend was looking down at me. I was laughing and laughing and laughing, spinning around, watching the desert floor rotating, thousands of feet below. I pulled hard with my left hand, so that I could grab the rail with my right and hoist myself up, but I was laughing too hard, and missed grabbing the railing with my right hand by mere millimeters. The force was too great, and I lost my grip with my left hand. As I fell, I was laughing, and watched the guardrail as I fell away from it, plummeting down, down, down, down.... Laughing and laughing... I hit the ground and was instantly catapulted out of my body, looking down on myself, and still laughing. Cool dream... 8) |

Title: Re: The Edge Post by Langa on Jan 6th, 2005, 12:16pm Seems to me like you should keep a record of your dreams as well. My dreams are never that exciting. :-/ Well except when I dream that I can fly, but then most of the time I'm afraid I'm going to run out of fuel or something and i'll come crashing to earth... Title: Re: The Edge Post by Jeepgun on Jan 6th, 2005, 12:30pm I do. I've kept dream journals for years. :) I've gotten pretty good at deciphering meanings and gaining insight from them, too. |
