Title: got O2
Post by john_d on Jan 5th, 2005, 8:26am
I went to the doc for the first time in years.   He did not understand very much about clusters but he listened well.  Got O2, it works.  Believe it or not I have not used it before.  Got Ambien  ::) not taking that, it scares me thinking about it.  Got a neuro referral, we will see.  Ordered something special  ;)  hope that works much more.  This website and the info available here is a godsend.  If I did not have the right info my doctor would not have.  Hope all is well with you all.  Pain Free Days.

John

I can relate to that.

Most of what my GP knows about CH he learned from this site via me.

John,

Many have found that the o2 works even better once coupled with "something special".   ;)

Good Luck!

Thanks, it's a real step for me- to admit I actually need help.  I never go to the doctor and I always think I can fix everything.  The amazing thing is the O2 specialist at the med store had actually had episodic clusters before.  To be honest, when she said that I actually teared up.   Then last night I tried it and for the first time in my life I actually aborted a CH.

Special thanks to Ree and Dave, their effort at reaching out and showing they care probably made it possible for me to do this.  I know it does not sound like a big deal, going to the doc, but it is for me.  And now, I actually have an 'out' for the first time.

Outstanding, John!! Sorry to hear that you're in cycle, but glad to hear that you're getting some relief. Hang in there, my friend.

After my fruitless and supremely frustrating consultation with  my POS neurologist, I came here, printed out the medical stuff, and took it to my GP. She read it and then with a wonderfully compassionate smile said, "Okay... I think I can work with you on this." My eyes filled with tears... Just to come across someone who understands and is willing to help... The relief and gratitude are overwhelming. PFDANs to you, John.

I'm so glad to hear that you went to the doctor! And that the O2 is helping. (remember to breathe :) )

Is that ambien the sleep med? I've used ambien and it has a very short half-life so you usually sleep for about 5hrs. and don't wake up groggy. However, it is NOT meant for long term use so if you can find something else..... It also did not help me sleep through ANY headache.

PF vibes..

You are not shitting, newb.   ;;D

I am amazed when I read the 'I have CH, but do not want to visit my doctor' posts.

Tough as nails.  These people would have John Wayne rubbing their feet.

some would say 'yer crazy'  ;;D

but the truth is this is my first longer-than-a-few-days cycle in like 6 years.  Somewhere around 1998 was my last one.  But this is the worst I can remember, getting hit over and over throughout the night, no sleep in sight.  All I can say now is 'I love my O2 tank'.

wow I am so proud of you... you went to the doctor... How were you originally diagnosed buddy??? You thought that if you went to the doc you would really be in cycle...and I m so sorry John D... that you are in cycle ...! Why is it that guys hate to go to the doctor... Women have a doctor for this and a doctor for that. ~~~ I am so proud of you for steppin up to the plate and going the natural route is going to get you there faster.  Remember if you smoke not to smoke or use candles near the 02 though. At one of the conventions I couldnt believe how many were smoking near the tanks.......NOT me... NON SMOKer here!!! ((only one practically there) LOL... I will be really sad if I hear you blew up...
No credit here to me and Dave either!!! You got help all by yourself...Don't be afraid to get help. It could genuinely shorten your cycle.Keep our number and if you need to call at all I am here all the time (sad to say) I need a job... a real job... Be well and take care of yourself... with all the love I can muster for ya  Ree

I went to the doctor when I was in the Navy, got diagnosed there.  1991.  Perscription, Lidocaine.   Helped not.   Went to the Navy emergency room in 1993, they gave me something but I am not sure what it was, but it made me feel like my whole body was flushed.  The thing is they gave it to me after the hit was over.  That was my last doctor visit for cluster headaches.   The only other time I went to the doctor since then was because my ears got full of wax and I could not hear anymore, I thought I went deaf.  ;)

Kudos and great job, John........but how in the 7 Hells of Wotan are we supposed to get the kiddies to check out O2, if you've been around this long and just checked out the canned air routine? Glad it's working, but if this ain't proof positive that you can quickly lead a horse to water, but you can't make it have cheap sex, I don't know what is.

Huff Ho, man.........

Hey Hap... Dave has had CH for 20ish years and only had 02 for his last cycle... his insurance up til recent wouldnt cover it.  We knew it "might" work but they said they wanted him to go to the ER with a CH and they would observe him aborting one with 02 before they would prescribe it... After the convention and Linda H helped him to use the 02... he was bound and determined.  So he called the Neuro and it had been 3 years since his last cycle and things had changed... 02 is alot cheaper than Imatrex, Zomig, Amerge, Frova, lets see did I miss any... by the way has anyone tried Relpax. my friend swears by it for her Migraines....... ree

Why the hell aren't you nekkid and in bed with Davey Boy at this time of night?

lol Jonny, I will spare you the details.

thanks everybody, got hit with one last night that the o2 had some trouble with, but all others aborted, still can't wait for cycle to end- just managing these is a real pain in the rear- but aborted pain is much, much better than non-aborted pain, eh?   ;)

yay O2
