Title: The Language Of Love Post by Jeepgun on Jan 4th, 2005, 8:56am THE LANGUAGE OF LOVE In the springtime, she stood before me, woman-child in yellow dress with soft arms full of lilies and giggling said, "Speak to me like the rain, like the caress of snowclouds' shadows over lavender mountains. Speak to me like generous sunlight plying open the rich earth." I could not say a word. My bones were cold. My hands were tired. My voice was the rasping of dry leaves from disuse. She returned in the summertime, grown taller and more graceful, gowned in gold and green, arms full of sunflowers and hair woven with jasmine. She laughed and gaily said, "Speak to me like the vaulted August sky, like the song of crickets or the rushing shushing of willows in the evening breeze." And I wanted her, longed for her, wanted to touch her and be touched by her slender, delicate hands, so I opened my mouth to try, but no sound would come, and she was gone. She did not come again until late autumn Her feet shuffled up the walk, her eyes downcast, clad in brown wool, arms empty, hair snagged with dead leaves, cobwebs and dew. She stood pale and frail before me and whispered: "Speak to me, damn you! Speak now, like the chill northern wind. Speak like the crackling fire on a snowy night. Speak to me like the splitting ice under the frosty moon. From your frozen, desolate heart, speak!" And she began to cry. I drew her into my arms and held her to me with fierce love burning its bright torch in my heart. I took her in, and we lay close through the frozen nights. I talked to her in every moment, and spoke to her like the rain, like the willows, like the thunderstorms of July, like the fire, the moon, and the ice. We laughed all winter long and were married in the spring. -Frank H. Weeden |

Title: Re: The Language Of Love Post by ExplodingEyeBall on Jan 4th, 2005, 9:07am Wow!!! You're going to make a poetry lover out of me yet. It's kind of funny that I've worked for the Library for 5 years and yet it takes someone I 've never met before to get me to read some poetry. Pat yourself on the back Frank. |

Title: Re: The Language Of Love Post by Jeepgun on Jan 4th, 2005, 10:33am Thanks, everyone. Redd, it's not autobiographical, but thank you. :) I was falling asleep one night, and the line, "Speak to me like the rain," crossed my consciousness. I turned that line over in my head for a few days, and when the piece was ready to be written, this is what came of it. :) -Frank |

Title: Re: The Language Of Love Post by Jeepgun on Jan 4th, 2005, 1:41pm Thank you, Ree. It's not really brave, though. I really have nothing to lose. Even if someone ridiculed what I wrote, it wouldn't stop me from writing, and it wouldn't take anything away from who I am, unless I allowed it to be so. :) I'm sure that newcomers and old-timers on this site wonder why I bother posting poetry and Jeeps and the occasional joke. It's my way of (hopefully) contributing something of beauty, and things that help people take their minds off of their pain, if even for only a few brief moments. Some people, like Paul, shoot photographs. Other people, like Zaira and Cerebus draw, paint, and sketch. I like to paint with words. :) It's a way of giving back to this site, out of gratitude, because this place literally saved my life. With Love, -Frank |

Title: Re: The Language Of Love Post by Jeepgun on Jan 4th, 2005, 4:16pm Thanks, Jim. Charlie, there really is. Rock-crawling produces a concentration, a one-point focus that is very Zen-like. And of course, being out in nature is always a poetic experience. :) |
