Title: For people who are new to computers!
Post by LadyElaine on Jan 3rd, 2005, 11:08am
I found this site for my sister in law who knows nothing about a computer. I even found out some things I did not know.

Elaine - what an interesting site.  Thanks for sharing it.  Although I use a computer daily in my work, it's applicable only to specific tasks.  My home system is a different matter and I can screw it up pretty quickly.  Perhaps this will keep me straightened out and my daughter won't have to "fix" it quite so often!

Don - don't be a PITA - I'm not the only one that can't figure things out around here!  Perhaps we could start a little club for those of us that are dysfunctional ;;D

Yes I found it interesting, so that's why highlight, then center click to paste doesn't work in windows, and I assume that tab doesn't auto-complete in the command line either. Who would have thought.

It took some surfing, but at the end of the list of lectures
was some fun computer jokes.

I still roflmho  when i hear about
old ladies using the mouse as a foot pedal

and there was a classic
about a sysop who told the caller
to "'p' on the keyboard".... yuck, yuck.

let me go dig up the landing site...hold on

From that jokes page,
Quote:
http://tinypic.com/165i7l Supposedly true story:
"We taught first-years how to cope with using a computer. We had one chap who spent ages with the mouse upside down, using it as a trackball, before he came and asked us if there was a better way."

:o True story:
Recently, I went to a computer shop and asked for a track ball. The shop assistant's jaw dropped, he stood there completely clueless what I was taking about. So I explained: it's a thingy with a ball that I turn with my thumb, and then the cursor moves across the screen. Now he brightened up, fetched a standard mouse and said: this one has a ball that you can turn with the thumb.   ::)
