Title: My kid got invited... Post by nani on Dec 29th, 2004, 9:15pm ...to represent the US in a world soccer tournament to be played in the Netherlands this summer. He got a letter from People to People Sports Ambassadors, which was allegedly started by Eisenhower and the Honorary Chair is GW Bush. It says he was nominated, but it doesn't say by whom. He is a kick ass soccer player, though. Anybody ever heard of these guys? I'm terribly over protective, but I know it would be terrible to have him miss this kind of opportunity if it's legit. It also says he can earn academic credit. I need input people...I'm a nervous nellie when it comes to my kids. |

Title: Re: My kid got invited... Post by karma on Dec 30th, 2004, 7:02am Hi Nani, Try this site. www.ptpi.org/programs/stud_sports.jsp I googled it and came up with that. There are a couple others related to this program. The contacts I come up with in NM are Bill Ayres 1100 Kentucky NE Albuquerque, NM 505 268 6536 bjayres@fortunhitech.net Randy Tutone 8105 Eddy NE Albuquerque, NM 505 828 2616 LOCOCROW@aol.com Check it out. If its legit any exposure for the youth to other cultures is worth its weight in gold. |

Title: Re: My kid got invited... Post by don on Dec 30th, 2004, 7:42am If he needs a chaperone you can put me on the list. I'll keep the hookers busy so they dont currupt the young-un. I'm already currupted so it dont matter. Just trying to help. |

Title: Re: My kid got invited... Post by Langa on Dec 30th, 2004, 12:28pm Nani, sounds like a great get-away for you both. I once worked for a company who's owners were from the Netherlands and visited constantly. I got to see a lot of pics from there and it seems like a beautiful place. We also had college students from there come to the company here in the U.S. as volunteers. Very nice people. And they like really STRONG coffee...lol. Let us know what happens. Langa |

Title: Re: My kid got invited... Post by Cluster_head on Dec 30th, 2004, 1:43pm The trip is a must! Back in '79 I played on a soccer team that toured South America. Still have very fond memories of that trip. If you don't let him go, he'll only have regrets. Tim |

Title: Re: My kid got invited... Post by BarbaraD on Dec 30th, 2004, 2:16pm If it's legit -- let him go. My son's first trip to Europe he wasn't but 12 and enjoyed it a lot. He went back two years later with a school group (without mom) and that time he REALLY had fun. The only regret I had was not letting my son go to Pakistan when he was invited by a roommate in boarding school. But I was a little overprotective about that one. Should have let him go, but..... Good luck -- Hugs BD |

Title: Re: My kid got invited... Post by Ree on Dec 30th, 2004, 2:32pm very cool........... what's it costing you... are they taking care of everything.......... that would be my concern other than that ... check out the chaperones and voila great opportunity for your child... My friends keep saying if anything was going to happen it can happen in your own house... (in respect to my worry over my kids in the service) Heck, you can be unsafe sitting at the beach we have found out this past week. God bless on your decision to let him go!!!! love to you Ree |
