My family and I went to wal mart on the way to a Christmas dinner. We noticed several soldiers in the store.
I don't know what made me do it, but I was in the long John department. There was a soldier standing beside me. I turned and before I knew it I looked him in the eye and said excuse me. I just want to say Thank you and I held out my hand. He smiled and said ! " Your Welcome. The he huged my neck and said see those guys over there would you tell them that! I walked up to them and Thanked them. They were all smiles. Several people around, that heard my family and I Thanking them. Did the same.
If you see a soldier Hold your hand out and Thank Them. You not only will feel good. They will love it..

I think if I tried to hug a soldier I might get a overhand right ;;D I'll just do a thumbs up ;;D

Oh Elaine, that is just wonderful! I will definately remember to do that if I run across some of our wonderful military men & women.

We have a good freind that just left for Iraq......we thanked him for all he has done rite befpore he left.....and let him know how much we appreciate what he is doing.......he's been there once already. I always thank troops and veterans.......they are the sparkle in America's eye Pam

For vetrans day our church has a BIG celebration for our VETS. This years celebration turned out to be a state wide event and we had a senetor there and a reprsentive from the govenors office. He couldn't make it. We sang lots of patriotic and gospel songs and at the beginning they all got a bootneer and at the end they all got a very long standing applause. And at the very very end when we all went out to see their military equqiptment and vehicles they got lots of hugs and kisses. One unit there got special permission to ship out for Iraq a day late just so they could attend our churches celebration party for the soldiers. It was awesome. They do very hard work, under long hours, and at high stress levels. They desearve all support we can give them.

Good for you Elaine.

One thing I do know is that our soldiers deserve all we can give them. My experiences with them have been more than good and it's hard enough for their families and friends, even when they are living here. I'll never understand why we don't pay them enough.

Clark and I went out for lunch on Friday and we were sitting in Wendy's, an elderly gentleman walked up and said Excuse me, I'd like to shake your hand and thank you for all you do, I served when I was young and we know what you sacrifice, may you and yours have a happy holidyay.

Clark thanked him for his service as well.

You really can't know just how much saying thank you to a service member means....it makes all their sacrifices worth it.

Im glad to hear things have changed over 30 or so years. When I wore the uniform, I was lucky to get the time of day. Keep those good feelings going. Soliders need that more than you can imagine.

On one of the sites I work at they put up a 20' Balsalm Fir and covered it with American Flags.

Picture on the front page of the local aper with the caption "Tree For the Troops".

When I came back from Desert Storm, one of the first things that happened was, my dad took me aside and said, "Welcome home, son. We'd rather not hear about what you did over there, but we're glad you're back."

It's been a long time since I've been back to see my parents. :-/

You're right, Tom. At the time, it felt like a rejection. (Not that I was going to discuss the things I did and saw over there, anyway!) But the fact that I was told not to mention it was a little hurtful...

Things are good between my parents and I now, so it's all good, I guess...

Nice job!

I have a neighbor whose daughter recently married a soldier. He's been to Iraq once and is going back in March. They had a child a few months after getting married (put it in the oven a little early). Anyhow, they hardly have any $$$$$ and she's gonna be alone caring for the newborn. We gave them a bunch of little kid stuff I have stored and a really nice crib. It'll go to good use and they really appreciated it. I told him it's the least we could do and we appreciate what he's doing for the country.

Probably my best Christmas gift yet. Next stop is the homeless shelter with my daughter. She's never been and she needs to get a better understanding about what the season is all about. She still thinks it's about going to the mall.
