Title: Re: HI Family! Post by OneEyeBlind on Dec 9th, 2004, 4:11pm Nice to see you back Nancy. Sorry the back is acting up though. When standing, try putting one foot up on a small stool .... so you stand cockeyed. This usually helps relieve tension in the lower back. Good luck & get to feeling better real soon ! |

Title: Re: HI Family! Post by catlind on Dec 9th, 2004, 4:15pm Thanks for checking in Nanc! I was starting to worry about you. Just so you know, Clark was not able to find any info, it looks like it's just rumor ;) As for sciatica, I suffered from that when I was pregnant, something about the position of a posterior baby that was pinching the nerve. No where near as bad as someone suffering from it all the time :( My doc has me using a donut ring all the time. It certainly helped. Also using heat massage on the back of your legs will help too. Doing physical therapy exercises IN THE POOL only will help to build the muscles in the area so that you can compensate a little better. It's critical that you do it in the water though, that takes the pressure off the spine and the nerves. Hope you get to feeling better soon! Miss you sis. Cat |

Title: Re: HI Family! Post by Jonny on Dec 9th, 2004, 4:21pm Sorry Babe, I have no answer for you....sciatica is now in both my legs and makes working for me almost impossible. I only take Ibuprofren because I cant afford to take pain meds due to my past history with drugs (14 years clean ;;D ) What I do find that helps some is if you put your foot up on a chair and lean forward so your knee comes to your chest, this takes pressure off your back and stretches the nerves......for me its good for quick reliefe from the pain. Hang in there, Sweetie :-* |

Title: Re: HI Family! Post by BarbaraD on Dec 10th, 2004, 7:10am Glad to see you back sis. Was about ready to come see about you. For the back pain -- don't know if they still make them or not, but try a girdle with a back brace. I had a maternity one back when I was pregnant and it stopped the pain instantly and kept it away (I'd had two back surgeries before the pregnacy so I was in some kind of pain till the girdle - my mom told be to try it and mom's know best - it worked). Also I'd take three Bufferin. They worked well (Phenobarb worked great but it's addicting). Hopefully your pain will go away soon (head and butt). Take care sweetie and keep in touch - Hugs BD |

Title: Re: HI Family! Post by helpless23 on Dec 10th, 2004, 8:22am Hi Nancy, Sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. I had a herniated disc that was pushing on my sciatica and my spinal cord. I had surgery done. Pinched nerve though - wow. I don't know. I couldn't get any relief until the surgery, but that was more than a pinched nerve. Try moist heat - and icy hot. It helped me a bit along with some major pain killers until the surgery. I would take a blasting hot shower, then slather the icy hot on immediately while my pores were open (I was desperate) and although it hurt like hell for 10 minutes after I put it on, it did help. Hope you feel better soon. Toni |
