Title: Flake-ing the flake
Post by nani on Dec 8th, 2004, 7:25pm
Limey and firebrix- thank you for your kind and generous offers. With great trepidation, I must decline. (I know I will regret this several times during the next months) I am trying to quit. I'm going to go cold turkey the minute my current stash is gone. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired, and confronting this addiction is necessary. Please send vibes and prayers, I will need them. Your kindness has really touched me and I am very grateful. Love, nani
;)

heeheehee!  what exactly is cadbury flake?

Its a chocolate bar.. very similar to a twirl but messier as they are very crumbly chocolate. twirls were invented IMHO so you could scoff them at work without getting a chocolate keyboard for your sins!

The most delicious chocolate bar you will ever taste. Creamy Cadbury chocolate "lace" rolled around itself. You can feel it melting in your mouth before it gets there. Just thinking about it makes me feel all "tingly".  :)

Sadly, I'm gonna have to go cold turkey on ALL chocolate. :(  That's why I need the vibes and prayers...

Well vibes and prayers I will do in plenty for you.
one thing I have often wondered though.. is it better to taper down and reduce the amount you have daily/weekly until you cut it out completely or just to stop one day and that be it?

Title: Re: Flake-ing the flake
Post by nani on Dec 8th, 2004, 8:38pm
Cold turkey is probably best if you can handle the delirium tremors... tapering just prolongs the agonizing side effects. I might have to ask the doc for valium to get me through (or at least keep me from killing my family). Withdrawl is an ugly, ugly thing...

I hadn't had a bit of chocolate until yesterday.  I had the most horrendous phone call and was in search of just a little chocolate piece (which normally you can find on just about any desk in my office) and not one piece to be found.  I ended up buying a Snickers.  It all worked out though because I had salad for dinner.

That Cadbury Flake thing sounds like something I really don't need to know exists!  I think my hips and thighs are expanding just thinking about it!

You can do it!  If my fat butt can do it you most definately can!  BUT here is my little secret - with Weight Watchers you can still have a little bit of chocolate each and every day if you want.  If you want to know more about it let me know!  It has got to be the easiest "diet" I have ever done!  Don't have to give up everything - oh, except McDonalds - no way around that one - that stuff is bad news!

Thanks Karen, I've actually "dabbled" in Weight Watchers before. I have to give up chocolate completely because I will end up using all my points for it. I'm going to just try and eat healthy, and maybe even take a walk.Gonna try giving up chocolate and simple carbs (except for raw sugar in my coffee). I'm gonna try and make my body "do" something for the calories. I really do feel like crap most of the time. Draggin' extra weight and up and down on the sugar roller coaster... that's why I mentioned what an inspiration you are...you go girl! and hopefully - Here I go girl!  :)

I'm here for ya!  Too bad we didn't live in the same town - we could be walking buddies!  My walking buddy just had a bunionectomy so no walking for her for a while.  Guess Elvis will become my walking buddy for a while - it'll be good for him too since he is getting a bit tubby lately!  Lazy damn dog!

DAMN!  Mel that is FANTASTIC!  That is what I am looking forward to, actually allowing someone to take a picture of me.  There are 5 pictures of me from the last 6 years and I have the negatives of all of them!

Uh, I don't get it.  What's a cadbury flake?  Is it anything like the famously disgusting Cleveland Steamer? Hope not.

mel, WOW!  That's somethin'.  You should send those pics to Subway or Weight Watchers...  You could get on TV and make a fortune by lying about how you used their products to get skinny.  Even if you don't make a killing you need to be PROUD of that accomplishment!!!!

oooohhhhh, Marlin - you have given my evil mind some more incentive to keep losing weight!  I am using WW maybe they will pay my ugly mug to be on TV once I am done losing all this weight!

ty marlin, i just wanted to let the gals know that it can be done.  i used Atkins myself, lost 75lbs, but would never be a spokesperson for the company now since the Dr. passed on.  they've become to commercialized.

Mel, you had already done fine by July. Not sure when you posted about this. That is amazing. Nice going kid.

I quit smoking cold after two tries 24 years ago. All I can say is that after a couple of weeks, it DOES get easier. My not drinking for something like 4 months helped too.

Good luck kids.

Charlie

That's an amazeing transformation Mel......esp to be able to keep it off. I have friends that also did the Adkin's diet deal and they both look SO much better and sticking with it too the past two years ! I keep alot of fruit (can'd and fresh....even in them little cups like applesause comes in) and apples with fat free carmel dip crap and do steam'd veggies for craveings and munchies.......better to eat alot of that them alot of the BAD stuff......till someone brings home a punkin cheese cake roll ! Yeah......I ate the whole thing Pam

75 lbs - SHIT!  That's remarkable.  I'll bet that's 5 sizes.  Means you have a full closet of sizes, you know the salespeople at the mall by first name and your wallet is empty.  Well, sooner or later you'll run out of $$$ and at least you'll look great wearing nothing but an empty wallet.

How does your husband like his new miniaturized wife?

He's happy if I'm happy.  It doesn't really matter to him how big or small I am.  He does like to pick me up now though, lol.  One thing that bothers him, is when I get down below 150lbs, so I try to stay between 152-160.  I did get down to 147 at one point and it was too much, so I gained some pounds.  When I started out on it, I weighed 230.  Anyway, today I weighed in at 154, and I'm happy with it. :)

Another inspiration mel...thanks. I'm going to be needing lots of encouragment...I have NO willpower. Probably why my life (and my body) turned out the way it did. :-/
Charlie...I'll be looking to you when I've been thin(ner) for awhile and can finally tackle the cigs. Way to go!
