Title: Harvard Medical research. QUESTION!!! Post by Jayne on Dec 8th, 2004, 8:20am don't slam me for being paranoid but I have had insurance problems before so I have to be very careful what I do. Andrew Sewell called me and asked me f my experience of our "alternative therapy" and I relayed my story to him over the phone A few days later I received a nice letter from him along with a request for release of my medical records from my Headache Doctor. So here's my question. The letter head said " Havard Medical School" "Alcohol and Drug Abuse Research Center" Is this going to look bad on me for future Insurance companies that "Alcohol and Drug Abuse Research Centers" Needed information about me?? I truly want to help ,, but I don't want to screw my self in the process. I would like some feedback from you all. I don't what to do at this time...maybe I am being paranoid, but my experiances in the past with red tape have led me to be this way. Thanks guys |

Title: Re: Harvard Medical research. QUESTION!!! Post by Mastifflvr28 on Dec 8th, 2004, 9:28am Jayne, I just had my doc copy off my medical records and meds that I had been on for clusterheadaches, then just faxed them to Dr. Sewell. I told the docs office it was for a study at Harvard. They asked nothing and just copied them off for me. They just say my "afflictions" and which meds I'd been perscribed. That's all the doc wants :) Mast |

Title: Re: Harvard Medical research. QUESTION!!! Post by Pinkfloyd on Dec 8th, 2004, 10:08am Hi Jayne, I think it's a good question. I don't blame you for being cautious, although I don't see this as being a problem. To be safe, you can do this just as Mast and Renee have suggested. Since you aren't putting in a claim for the research center, I don't see how they would ever even see the request or care about it if they did. All information you release and anything regarding your relationship with Andrew is strictly confidencial just as any other information given to doctors. If you end up sending the release form itself into your doctors office, I would suggest attaching a copy of a printout that explains the research so anyone looking at the request would know what it was about. If you want to do that and can't find a link to any of the appropriate pages, let me know and I'll send you a link or two. Since this is basically research into a new drug for cluster treatment, it's every bit as legitimate as any other new drug before it has FDA approval. Not any different legally or ethically than the first research trials into the triptans before FDA approval. (only it's going to be better ;-) Thanks for helping, BobW |

Title: Re: Harvard Medical research. QUESTION!!! Post by Flounder on Dec 8th, 2004, 1:34pm I also requested my medical records from my Nuero and they had no problem sending them to me. That was before Andrew sent me the release form. I faxed the records they sent me to Andrew and that was all he needed. I would have sent the release had I had it sooner but I understand your concerns. |

Title: Re: Harvard Medical research. QUESTION!!! Post by Pinkfloyd on Dec 8th, 2004, 9:32pm Talked to my doc today. They only had 88 pages there. They had moved most of my file to the archives because it was too big to keep in the files. Wanted to know if I wanted them to send the lift truck to pick up the rest. [smiley=laugh.gif] I said just send the doctors notes and list of meds. They said..."Thats what the 88 pages are!" Save a tree....treat clusters with mushrooms BobW |
