Good luck dude.  If your cycles last a month or so you should consider meds that have some prospect of breaking the cycle.  Of course maintain that abortives stockpile.

Q:  Is your twin identical and does he also get CHs?

If can answer either with a yes I'll bet there are a few research groups that might be real interested in sticking needles in you guys and taking a bunch of MRIs and performing all sorts of tests...

Post by john_d on Dec 5th, 2004, 7:31pm
no he doesn't.  there is another twin who posts here and his twin does not get them either, and him and I are both identical twins.  Which means my brother and I and his brother and him share exactly the same genetics.  [smiley=huh.gif]   But whatever, all I can think about now is 'fuck this', you know what I mean?  fuck this

i've never taken meds, I am not against them it just that 7 years ago the only thing I remember people saying worked was oxygen, and I did not even do that.  Does that special fungus everyone talks about actually work?    I am not sure what to do,  I may try to get some oxygen.

I'm pretty sure it's OK to use O2 and the fungus. You just can't use chemical meds... I think.

Have you stayed in touch with a neuro or GP?

7 years has been along time and there are proven effective meds out there now that will help you manage your pain and maintain some quality of life.

Thanks

I never bring this up because it sounds like a lame cure post but what I do when I get in cycle is I practice meditation. When I get into a hit or shadowing really hard,  I sit in half-assed lotus position and be aware of my breathing, of the pain, of everything and I let it be- that is what I do.  It's worked (for me) in the past.  Well, I just investigated and discovered I starting posting at ch.com almost this same time last year and I was shadowing then also.  Last year I never did get hit though.  But what I did then was 1) quit drinking 2) started meditating again, and the shadowing stopped.   At this point in my life I am back to drinking (nightly) and I stopped meditating about a month ago.  I am getting back on the plan right-fricken-now, it's amazing the discipline I can feel coarsing through my veins with the thought of clearing the pain of ch.   we'll see what happens.  still- [smiley=nono.gif]

Don's right (man, I hate to say that ....) LOL!

There are new and better meds now.  I'm also a 5-year cycler.  And, if you're determined to do the chemical-free thing, O2 is effective for many, many people here.

For alternatives, check out clusterbusters.com.

Hugs and wishes for PFDAN,

Kris

This sucks but I hope you think about getting some help although if meditation works, great. You might want to add my technique in the mix though.

Give the bastard a real run for his money.

Vibes coming to you John.... Meditation is great, personally I just can't concentrate. My mom teaches yoga and does reiki (sp) so once she did reiki when I had one but I couldnt sit still. I wish I could, I would rather do the natural thing than all the meds, but hay, Whatever works. Hang in there.   [smiley=hug.gif]

Thank you very much all  :)

quick dumb question,  let's say I went to the doc and got some meds.

What is the story with 'rebound' headaches?  As an episodic does this mean my cycle will last longer or does it mean I am going to be taking more meds chasing shadows all day?

Thanks if anyone has a chance or inclination to answer

Hey John,

Getting hit after 5 years is simply awful.  I once had a four-year break and when the beast came back, I was a very unhappy camper.

As some people said, CH treatment has gone a long way in the past few years.  Go check your options with a doc/neuro who knows his stuff.  I have treated my last two cycles with a Verapamil/Imitrex shots combo and it has made it much easier for me.  Rebound headaches and/or longer cycles are also a concern of mine but, so far, using meds have been positive.  Next on my list is O2.

Wishing you a very short cycle and an even longer pain free periode!

john, just break down and see a neuro.  The cycle may or may not last longer than it would have otherwise BUT you will not experience the k9 or k10s if the meds work.

I tried meditation using a bio-feedback system 20 years ago with minimal success.  Don't waste your time.  It'll never knock a CH down like modern meds.  This is a chemical imbalance so you fight it with chemistry.

O2 & trex MAN!!!  Get with the program

I can tell you this. I once had a three year remission, cycle free and med free for 3 blissful years. Then they hit.

I immediately started the verapamil, stored up some imitrex and a week into it did the prednisone taper.

The cycle was the shortest and most manageable I have had in 27 or 28 years of this. I attribute that to the meds being more effective after having not used them for three years.

Rebounds? Worry about the initial attacks first. Worry about rebounds after. You may not even experiance them.

Give yourself a break.See a Doc. Get on some meds.

John,
My experience with meds was not pleasant. Tried verap and Zomig tabs for the first time. Got more and worse Ha's and experienced shadows for the first time. I guit the meds and my cycle went back to the normal 1-2 a day and no shadows after two days. I am very active and involved in allot of physical activities and the verap made me feel like crap.
My suggestion would be the 02. Deep breathing and relaxing works to get through a hit.
If you feel you want to try the trex go ahead but if you experience an overall worsening of the cycle, give it up.

Sorry to hear you are getting hit again.  That simply STINKS !

I did Imitrex for the really bad headaches that woke me out of a dead sleep, other than that, I used O2 for shadows and the lesser painful headaches.  I never had a problem with rebounds.

Good luck !
