Title: Watch out for the phishers... Post by ExplodingEyeBall on Nov 30th, 2004, 2:44pm What are phishers you may ask? Well...... People send messages out to random innocent people like me ;;D with misleading information that usually works it's way around to asking you to confirm your information. This information almost always involves bank account numbers and other personal information. Don't be fooled by them!!! If you get something like this, you can report it by forwarding it to uce@ftc.gov. I just recieved an email at my work address with the words RE:Audition as the subject from a fictitious person names Franseca Tomlinson. Here's the text in the message. DON'T VISIT ANY OF THE URLS LISTED IN THIS MESSAGE!!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Notification Alert: Thank you for your inquiry, we have been notified that two lenders are interested in offering you a deal. Remember, for this special offer past credit history is not a factor. In accordance with our terms please verify your information on our secure and private site to ensure our records are accurate. http ://www.we-gen-it2.com/index2.php?refid=windsor Have a Great Holiday Season --Francesca Tomlinson Senior Consultant - Low-Rate Advisors Inc. If this email has reached you in error please let us know...thx http ://general.stooddisease.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay... I feel I've done my part here in warning against this stuff. Don't get screwed by these kind of people. They will take you for every penny they can get and don't give a s*** who you are or how much money you have. Always, be careful with email. If it's from someone you don't know or an offer that's to good to be true, ignore it. If it's regarding something that you don't remember ever inquiring about, ignore it. If it's a bill collector..... well..... I'm not giving any advice there. I have my own secret ways of avoiding those bas*****. Pat |

Title: Re: Watch out for the phishers... Post by ExplodingEyeBall on Nov 30th, 2004, 3:05pm While on this subject, check this link. This one is pretty important since I see a lot of joking around here that would involve things that look similar to this. It's OK to click this link. It just has some information about another email worm. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.garroch@mm.html |

Title: Re: Watch out for the phishers... Post by Mac_Muz on Nov 30th, 2004, 5:51pm Me: I don't give a damn.. Not that the warning was unheeded.. But I tell it like it is.. The if someone dumb enough shows on my door step I just get another scalp lock for my collection. I don't fit in well here, but that's no surprise, as I don't fit in well anywhere.... Mac |

Title: Re: Watch out for the phishers... Post by Jeepgun on Dec 1st, 2004, 11:34am More insidious and damaging are the ones who imitate eBay and Citibank, even using their graphics in the body of the message, and asking you for your credit information for updating their files, or alleged credit card problems. Be safe. Be secure. Be cautious. |
