Title: Have you ever....
Post by Redd715 on Nov 24th, 2004, 2:18pm
..accidentally injured yourself during a hit? :-/

Last nights 3am wakeup call ended with a wonderfully sprained right ankle.

Seems as though when I rushed into the bathroom and flipped on the light to get a syringe of trex, as I stepped on the rug, it decided to slip and slide and wedge my right foot up under the counter.

Needless to say I didn't really feel anything till the HA was over, but this morning when I could barely walk and the swelling was obvious, I had to call in to work...

So was that stupid or what? [smiley=laugh.gif]

Redd, hell gal Ive been the one to get injured not Dave. Hes got the CH not me! LOL  See Im the one person in the world who cant walk and chew gum at the same time!LMAO  When Dave gets hit I try hard to be quick to get the ice and the Trex, but for some reason Im the one who trips UP the steps, slams her fingers in the night stand drawer, walks in to the O2 tank! LMAO But I must admit Ive seen Dave black his eye when hes gotten hit and see is hand after hitting the floor with his fist. No pretty. But Im the walking mess waiting to happen! LMMAO

I am chronically clumsy. I drop stuff, spill stuff, trip over stuff, run into stuff, break stuff, hurt myself... Take it easy on the ankle. Ice, rest, elevation, and Motrin as needed.

I'm taking care of myself as much as I can...now if there was a cute butler to help me out with the little things I'd be set...

Redd,
Who you trying to fool. You just wanted an extra, extra long weekend and put that here in case your boss knows about this site. ;)
Sounds like a great excuse for the kiddies to pamper mom for change. Take advantage of it.

Back in 2000 I was punching the floor during a hit, and busted my long thumbnail. Though it took a few minutes coming out of the thrush of pain of the attack to realize my thumb was throbbing and when I looked down at it, I noticed how big bright purple it was and didn't quite stick out normal. I broke the fucker punching the floor without even realizing it.
Hell, my old apartment looked like it had been hit by a tornado, as I would throw shit, trash shit, during a CH. Nowadays I sit on the bed and punch it or my leg. Figure I'm safer there.

Peace, and stay off the ankle,
Carl D

I walked into the edge of a door a few nights ago and three days before that I got my fingers caught in the hinge-side of a door as it was closing. That was enough to notice even through the CH.
I did a good bit of lurid cursing but I already had the ice so it wasn't too bad.
I can think of better "bath toys!"  ;;D

Here you go, Luinda - I had this puppy bookmarked for awhile but have since housecleaned.  I think it must be DJ's favourite post too because he uses the title in the Search example:  "Cluster Safety Kit".

Here's the link:http://www.clusterheadaches.com/wwwboard/messages/10845.html

and here's the post.  Always good when you need a laff!!

OK, since I have gotten to know you people over the course of the past several months, I think I can now open up and bare my soul to you; so to speak. I trust you guys. Anyone who doesn’t suffer from cluster headaches or supports someone who has clusters; please close this window right away.

Okee Dokee. Now that we are alone, I shall bare my soul. I’ll start at the end of my story, then jump to the beginning and then work my way to the end again. I am trusting that none of you will laugh, make fun or talk about me behind my back. I trust that you will keep this, “our little secret”.

My wife has just purchased me a cluster headache “safety kit”. (This is the end of the story). The kit contains, one pair of safety eye goggles, a jock strap with cup and a small flashlight.

Now. The beginning of my story. Like some of you, I have been getting my cluster attacks at 3:00am. This is a bad time for me because usually I am sound asleep. My mental sharpness is somewhat dull at this time in the morning.

My normal procedure for dealing with a cluster headache is to simply swallow two Ercaf pills, then turn my Oxygen tank to the “on” position. I then take the Oxygen mask, which I keep hanging on the tank for easy accessibility, and place it on my face and breathe, rock my body and quietly moan while sitting on the sofa in our living room. The Oxygen mask is fitted with a convenient elastic band to hold the mask in place on my face. This leaves my hands and arms free to flail about and hit my head and bang on the coffee table. I have performed this simple routine approximately, 8,286 times in the past 15 years.

Well, the other day at 3:00am, this simple routine took a turn for the worse. I was rudely awakened by the Demon in my head. This caused me to jump from the bed, naked, and run down the stairs to my Ercaf and Oxygen. Swallowing the Ercaf did not pose a problem. It was my fight with the Oxygen tank and mask that was quite unsettling. You see, I had no problem turning the Oxygen on. But, I had some difficulty grabbing the mask from the tank.

It seems that the elastic band on the mask got stuck on the handle of the Oxygen tank. I don’t know what it’s like at 3:00am where you live, but where I live it’s really, really dark. I couldn’t see and I really didn’t have time to fully assess the situation with my stuck Oxygen mask. I couldn’t figure out why the mask didn’t want to be placed on my face. So, I just pulled as hard as I could. I now realize that this was a mistake. The elastic band, rather quickly, came unstuck from the Oxygen tank. The elastic band rebounded off the tank and snapped “Mr. Winky”. This is the name I have given to my “you-know-what”.

I’ve found that whenever “Mr. Winky” is injured it causes me to double over fairly fast. Doubling over on this particular day caused me to poke my eye on the Oxygen tank’s handle. The pulling of the mask also made the little plastic tube that joins the tank with the mask break free from the mask. The mask had now become useless. Being rather resourceful, I immediately shoved the tube into my left nostril and found my favorite place to sit on our sofa. My hands that are normally free to flail about were now used to hold “Mr. Winky” and my right eye.

I guess I made quite a commotion. My wife, who knows not to visit me during a cluster headache, now, paid me a visit. Seeing me naked on the sofa with an Oxygen tube in my nose and holding “Mr. Winky” with one hand and my eye with the other, caused her to ask me, “What are you doing”? Still suffering the cluster headache, I had just enough energy to lift my head and politely grunt. The next day my wife purchased me the Cluster Headache Safety Kit. I think I now deserve to be a member of O.U.C.H.

I fell down the stairs, rug burns on my elbows and a few brusies, but nothing broken. It was like the 2:30 am hit that got me up and then the dog had to go pee.
You no, just one of those morning things, I just sat there at the bottom of the stairs, thinking, this really sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like the bath toy, that could be fun.

Dammit Marg.... It takes ma an hour to find Drummers post and I come back only to find you've already posted it.
Tis okay though...was a whirlwind trip down memory lane reading some of the old posts, thinking of some of the old timers like Drummer and wondering where they are all at now and if they are painfree finally. Even found the announcement of Angela Gilbert's suicide, all kinds of stuff... Just bawling like a big kid who lost the football game..

Guilty as charged,  Your Worship.

Blood on the wall,  blood on the floor.

Hot-soaking my head and not even realizing until later that I'd scalded my scalp and half my hair fell out.

Only a kip8 but I'd run out of cope.  Got every pill bottle and packet in the house (even her vitamins, apparently) and lined them all up on the table.  Gunna work my way from one end to the other until something works.  Another voice took me to hospital and they protected me from myself for a couple of days.

Brought home naked by police.  Seems her dad was CH until he couldn't take it any more.

And two other incidents too embarrassing to mention.

AussieBrian.

don't have to have a CH to injure myself.  I do that all on my own, but yes, guilty as charged.  Fell and hit my head on the table a few weeks ago.  Had a nice black and blue goosey egged forehead for about 4 days.  Quite becoming.

LOL
Several years ago, my wife was trying to help me out while I was in the middle of a cluster. She had listened to me before telling her how my eyes burned so during an attack so she would put her cold fingers on my eyes and I would moan. It felt so good. Idea: Put large soup spoons in the freezer and use them. So with my new idea in mind I'm pacin and moanin in the dark got a spoon from the freezer put it on my eyelid and it promtly froze on. I freaked, trying to pull it off bouncing off the kithen furniture stuff crashing all around. About that time my wife turns on the light and I freak all over again. Turn it off turn it off. Turn it on get this thing off my eye I yelled. She was so cool took care of me and still laughs at me about it.

I am certainly not the gross motor queen.
Always bumping into stuff, stubbing my toes....whatever.
Many injuries during pain.

My latest prize winner was in late September when during the watery eye/nose part of a hit I made the horrible mistake of sniffing in while reaching for a tissue..... and tweaked my neck and couldn't move for a few days.

(The extra bonus was that the meds they gave me for my neck caused rebound HAs...aak!)
