Title: My job! (photos)
Post by Hirvimaki on Nov 23rd, 2004, 2:54pm
As many of you know, I am a graphic designer. I work in the Marketing and Business Development department of a civil engineering firm. A lot of what I do is getting the company work (obviously), but I also get to work in public involvement and the like. Today is the ribbon cutting of a huge job we just completed, and one of the most fun I've worked on, public involvement-wise, the Louisiana/I-40 Reconstruction project. I'm outta here in a couple of minutes to attend the ribbon cutting, but as I went through some images from the project, I though it would be nice to share some with ya'll.

This is the logo I developed for the Public Relations phase of the project. It appeared on all the signs and in all the press releases and was on t-shirts.

This is a few of my co-workers and me posing in front of one of the girders used in the reconstrcution project. That's my office building in the background. :)

This is what the interchange looked like before reconstruction.

This is the completed deal.

Another shot of the completed interchange.

One of the big things in this project, because of the location of the interchange, was to help people find the routes kept open for the local businesses. The project affect the whole of Uptown, which includes two malls and quite a number of other businesses. I developed Business Access Maps to help people navigate around during construction. They very quite successful!

It is very cool to the see the project completed, and to realise I've been a part of something that impacts so many people here in New Mexico, yet in a way I am sad it is over as I enjoyed the public involvement so much.

Well, the ribbon cutting went well. Very well. :)

I had a frantic week, two weeks ago, putting together a submission for the Louisiana/I-40 job for the ACEC (American Council of Engineering Companies) design awards for this year. I was pretty proud of the submission. It was announced at the ribbon cutting that Louisiana/I-40 took the Grand Conceptor Award for New Mexico, which means we'll be moving on to nationals with the project! A very good feather in the cap.

All smiles today!

Nice job.
Concept and design are an integral part of any project. The success of the project is determined by how easily and efficiently the design is completed.
Don't forget to give the contractors and workers the big up they deserve after all it is them that are partly responsible for making your company look good.
