Title: Looking forward (and backward) to Christmas Post by don on Nov 23rd, 2004, 2:54pm I always looked forward to that box of Peanut Brittle Dad would get me every single year. I knew that despite everything, all was right with the world when I got that box of Peanut Brittle from my Dad. I still miss that annual box of Peanut Brittle. Merry Christmas Dad. :) :'( |

Title: Re: Looking forward (and backward) to Christmas Post by Jeepgun on Nov 23rd, 2004, 3:28pm Hey Don, do you have anyone in your family to which you could send a box of peanut brittle? That would be kind of a neat way of honoring your memory of your father, and continuing the tradition. :) (edited for grammar. Jeez...) LOL |

Title: Re: Looking forward (and backward) to Christmas Post by ExplodingEyeBall on Nov 23rd, 2004, 3:35pm My biggest hope is that Becky and I can make Christmas as special for Mackenzie as my parents made it for me when I was little. Here's Mackenzies' first Christmas back in 2001 http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b4cf02b3127cce9cdfc772242200000016108EZs2rJy0ba Hugs and all my love to all who are remembering and missing those who are only here in our hearts now. [smiley=hug.gif] [smiley=heart.gif] [smiley=hug.gif] Edited to add: Jeep.. That was a really cool idea. Now, I'm going to have to find someone to send a half addressed Chirstmas card to that somehow finds them so I can honor the memory of my Dad. |

Title: Re: Looking forward (and backward) to Christmas Post by Kevin_M on Nov 23rd, 2004, 8:23pm Don, I know it's not like the same as it would be coming from your dad, it's not even peanut brittle... but I'll tape up this Snickers bar I just took a bite out of, or even make a run to grab some honey roasted beer nuts from the counter display at the liquor store. You know I will, but some things just don't say Christmas like the special consistent rememberance and simple joy of knowing you were thought of. Saturn sends a card to my car on its birthday every year but my auto insurance representative sends a card for Christmas. Hope you can find somebody you know and send peanut brittle to them, dad would be happy and proud. Some things are irreplaceable. Merry Christmas Kevin M |

Title: Re: Looking forward (and backward) to Christmas Post by Redd715 on Nov 23rd, 2004, 8:44pm Ever since I was on my own...even before I married...it was tradition that Mom spent Christmas Eve and most of Christmas day with me, then me and my husband and the babies, and then after the divorce, me and the kids. It was tradition in the latter years, that Christmas eve Mom and I would go...Just the two of us, for a mid evening drink to break up all the gift wrapping we saved for that night...the two of us. All hers and all mine...we'd have wrapping night, wine or bourbon eggnog, tom and jerrys, all depended on what we felt like. We'd wrap and talk about all the little things...stories Mom would relate for sometimes the hundreth time..but it is those times I treasure and remember so much. Mom I miss our talks, calling for no reason at all, or to get your wise advice, even though sometimes I was too stubborn to take it. These past few Holidays, knowing you are too weak, and not able to spend them here, I wish so very much that I could, for one day give you back your legs to run with the kids again, give you back your mind to say all the things you need to say to those who have abandoned you. I Love you Mom. Be it Celebrating Christmas with the kids, or Yule Just the two of us...the Season just is not the same anymore... [smiley=heart.gif] |

We gotta separate for alot of holidays here cuz we can't be two places at once. My folks are alone if I don't go there. Would love it if the families jus got together and had a day like yours Redd........we'd all like each other more I bet and bond better. Verses the HYPE of it all. Hopein not get get a rash this season.....or gain weight......or go balistic and be taken away in a straight jacket. Brad's cycle hasn't hit yet so 'that's' a good thing. Countin unhatched chickens Pam Here's a poem for ya someone sent me: TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING, BUT I JUST COULDN't SLEEP I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS, I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP. THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION WITH ALL MY MIGHT TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR AND GAZED AT THE FRIG, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE. I GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES. I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND ROUND 'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND. I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE. BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES... HAPPY EATING TO ALL PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE. MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY, MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP. MAY YOUR POTATOES'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP. MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE, MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF YOUR THIGHS. HAVE A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING! ::) |
