Title: Re: Is this a Scam? - It is not one that I have se Post by dougW on Nov 22nd, 2004, 3:41pm There was a great news story on this up here in Canada recently. A young lady listed here car for sale on-line. She got replies similar to this from around the world. They even sent here cheques (all of wich were forged/counterfit or bounced). When she didn't send the person the excess money she started getting angry emails and even a death threat. Don't fall for it. It is a big scam. http://www.megspace.com/cars/thundersonlinegarage/autoscam.html Run for cover!! Doug |

Yep. Based on the fact that a check 'clearing' is a relative term. For a check to clear takes just a few days... freeing up the funds. But for a bank/account that does not exist, it could take a few weeks for the check to be returned as non-payable, at which point your bank will debit your account for the check total. Of course, at that point, the scammer gets to keep the wired funds. And also of course, you get to keep the car. They are not at all interested in it. |

Title: Re: Is this a Scam? - It is not one that I have se Post by Testy1 on Nov 23rd, 2004, 3:17am I get these all the time although mine usually start out "I am the wife of the late (insert African dictator here) and am trutsing you to help me get a large amount of money out of (Nigeria, Ghana, insert other African country here) Please send me your bank account details and I will wire US $38,000,000 to you after which you can return 90% to me. There is usually some religious business sprinkled around as well. If something looks too good to be true, it usually is. Regards Jack |
