Title: anyone on verapamil? Post by cschick on Nov 21st, 2004, 10:05pm I am on Verelan PM which is the verapamil "family" - I am having some SERIOUS pain in my lower abdomen. Does anyone have any experience with verapamil causing pain like this? This is the only med I am on other than Fiorecet which is only taken when I have a migraine. I have been having this pain since Thursday and it is really starting to concern me. I have had my appendix out so I know it is not that. Any responses appreciated. |

Title: Re: anyone on verapamil? Post by Mr. Happy on Nov 21st, 2004, 10:43pm Happy Chili Proper Chili is an art form. It takes the better part of a day to create this wonder of nature, and can't be hurried. Any measurements of ingredients is arbitrary.....I don't use use measuring cups, spoons or utilities. Your cooking kettle is your canvas...... Ingredients: *Stock* 2-3 cans Tomatoes (approx 14 oz), crushed 1 pt V-8 juice (more if thinner mix desired) 8 stalks celery, 2 large onions, 6 cloves garlic, all diced and sauteed until transparent 1/4 cup honey 1/2 cup chili powder 1-10 Tbsp cayenne pepper (to taste) 1 Tbsp white pepper Salt - I use lots 2 Tbsp Cumin (VERY important) 2 Tbsp Thyme 10-800 Jalapeno peppers de-seeded and diced anything else in the frig that might taste good Put above ingredients in a large pot, bring to a low boil, then reduce to a bare simmmer for 3 hours, uncovered, stirring often. It should be too hot to put in your mouth just yet. *Add: 1 lb cooked ground beef, or any other meat you like 1 can small white beans 1 can small red beans 1 can pink beans anything else in the frig that might taste good Continue slowly simmering and stirring for another couple hours, uncovered. You'll know it is aproaching the "Ready to Eat" stage when it no longer sets your mouth on fire. This can only be accomplished by hours of slow cooking, allowing the condiments to seep in to the beans/meat and become tempered. Any monkey can put a bunch of pepper in a pot and set your mouth on fire. This is not the case with true Chili. Although it may start off as a 5 alarm mix, by the time it has simmered all day a blending of ingredients will occur, and you get a reasonably hot dish with a rich, full bodied tast that fills the mouth with flavor, not fire. The next morning is a _Whole_ `nuther story. Walking helps, too.....I rectum...... RJ |

Title: Re: anyone on verapamil? Post by Ueli on Nov 21st, 2004, 10:44pm From http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/verelan_cp.htm: "VERELAN PM uses the proprietary CODASTM (Chronotherapeutic Oral Drug Absorption System) technology, which is designed for bedtime dosing, incorporating a 4 to 5-hour delay in drug delivery. The controlled-onset delivery system results in a maximum plasma concentrations (Cmax) of verapamil in the morning hours." Maximum concentration in the morning hours is what a clusterhead needs, isn't it? ::) Two or three prunes per day, fresh or dried, help too against constipation. PFNADs, Ueli [smiley=smokin.gif] |

Title: Re: anyone on verapamil? Post by cschick on Nov 21st, 2004, 10:53pm So the general consensus is I need to take a poopie. Alrighty then, I shall make a run to the pharmacy tomorrow and load up on some diuretics. The chili recipe looks tempting, but still losing weight so that is a no go. Although it looks as though I would shit myself thin with that stuff! YEECH - think it would bring on a whole other set of problems that one! :o PFDAN to all! Karen the stopped up one |

Title: Re: anyone on verapamil? Post by cschick on Nov 22nd, 2004, 12:03pm really don't think I have to poopie! The pain is now radiating down into my hips. Thinking kidney stone - yet again - or ovarian cysts. Off to the urgent care for a check. I'll let you guys know. Any feelings on this Frank? Let's see if you are right. |

Title: Re: anyone on verapamil? Post by tpitts77 on Nov 23rd, 2004, 9:53am I had severe stomach cramps for about 2 weeks (Ithink it was from the verapamil). I finally let loose one day and the pain was gone. That was after 2 trips to this quack of a dr who thought it was heartburn. Pooping is relaxing ;;D |
