So, what are these DAVCON meets all about?

First, after all these grueling years of suffering with CHs, I've still never met another soul in person that shared my horror. Sure, I've had a couple of docs that seemed to understand and apparently had a genuine interest in seeing that I get relief. But it's just not possible to describe the beast to anyone and expect them to understand. My wife gets it. I mean, she's seen me in my glory. Anyhow, I've got to say, this board and all you lunatics are incredibly awesome.

That brings me to this DAVCON meet. What do you think? Recommend it?? I'm definitely curious and I have a collection of free airline tickets so I could afford to burn one on a trip to Davenport in January if you think it's a worthwhile thing for me to do. Or should I wait for a more attractive destination and another meet??

Anyone?

Dude....your nuts if you dont go meet big Thomas at Davcon.....truely one of the nicest people I have ever met (Usually dudes that size are pricks ;;D)....all the other folks that will be there are awesome.

Ive met probably 75 clusterheads...its always unreal!!

Ill be in Phoenix the weekend before that if ya wanna hook up ;;D

We did this last year - the DavCon thing - and it was AWESOME! We had the BEST time... and I was asked to do it again this year.
if you need a ride from the airport, (Moline)... let me know - I'm the airport shuttle ;;D

Hope to meet you there.... there's nothing like meeting others........... bring the wife - there are a lot of us wives who like to meet too!

Hi Marlin,

You should definately consider going. It is truly amazing to say the least. Don't worry about the COLD Davenport weather. We stay inside the whole time in a nice warm atrium. Except for beer runs. LOL

It's the only time you can get hit and no one looks at you like your strange or something. We all understand.

and Reeeally - WHO cares about the destination? We aren't there for the sights - we're there to meet other people...

You guys are talking me into it. Hopefully the beast'll be down the street or in his (her) cage by then and I can actually have a good time. I've never seen anyone else battle with the beast before - I don't know how I'll react - possibly a sympathy CH from all the raging pain in the room. Does Glaxo show up with a Trex display and free injections?

Glaxo doesn't show up - but everyone there has battle gear. All the O2 / trex you'll need.

it IS an experience to see someone else get hit - you'll want to take that hit yourself so they wont have to.

Well, I'm not really crazy about the cold weather. I grew up in Montreal and that's one of the principal reasons I now live in Tucson - Possibly a more attractive meet location for January. But who cares, like you said, it's about the clusterheads.

I can take a little cold, provided I still have adequate cold weather attire...

While in Nashville, I got hit a LOT. And MANY people witnessed them. I had several in a row in a public restaurant. I wanted to leave and go hide, but everyone convinced me to wait it out. Many "outsiders" witnessed my hits. It was one of the best training excercizes ever presented. Many people now know what they are, and understand more about them.

I am not saying go out and get hit in public, but if it happens, oh well, let it happen. You would be helping to educate the "outsiders" to our condition.

But, by all means, GO TO DAVCON!!!

You got free airline miles.....use `em. The cold weather won't matter one wit. You'll leave an airport, catch a ride to a hotel, and not leave it until you head back to an airport. Great atrium, indoor pool, lots of food, booze and cheap sex.

Now I need to think about my entourage... Do I bring my wife? Maybe the following time? It's not like seeing someone getting slammed would be new to her but somehow I don't know if she needs to watch a lot more of a horror show with no way to escape -- Davenport in Jan. and a fixed airline ticket.

I guess I should ask her...

Having been to both the national convention AND the first DAVCON, trust me when I say that she will be too busy having a good time and meeting others who not only suffer but support....its the best therapy available.

I got Brad interested and we went to the convention in NY.....didn't think he'd wanna go esp not knowing a sole or even ever gettin on here to know what it's all about. But we went.....and also went to Nashville......and it's all he talks about. Had a wonderful time we'll never forget !!! Such a warm feeling soon as ya arrive ! Sorta like seein the virgin mary in a grilled cheese sandwich Pam ;)

I'm gonna go.

Talked with my wife and perhaps she and the kid'll go at a future event. Burning 3 airline tickets for a couple of days in Davenport in Jan didn't sound like the best idea. At a future event, where we can also make sort of a vacation out of it, she and the kid will bring me along.

Jonny, nice video clip. Looks like a nice group of folks. Juat one thing - Who empties all those ash trays lol!?!

I'm gonna schedule it today or tomorrow. I looked into my airline ticket stash and guess what?!? -- I have a 1st class ticket I need to use up or it expires. I have to negotiate with my wife (think she might have had plans to use it) but I just might get it! That'll be a treat! It's my birthday that weekend so if by some chance I get intoxicated I'll get a comfortable ride home, to the airport at least.

That and all I can drink on the way over. You can bet I'll be needing a ride from the Moline airport if I travel 1st class, provided I'm not in a cycle...
