Title: A Funny Little Story about the number "47&
Post by helpless23 on Nov 13th, 2004, 10:55am
And why it means so much to me...

I told you that I wanted to share some of the great memories I have of my late step-son Christopher, so here is one of them.  It will show you what a great, easy going kid he was and why it was so hard to get mad at him.

We decided to take a family trip to Florida. For the first time, all of us together.  We packed into our 96 Mercury Marquis with our 2 good friends and their daughter (in another car) and took that 2 day trip that wound up to be one of the greatest, most memorable things we ever did as a family.

We knew that it wouldn't be easy, and we sure didn't expect it to be fun with 3 children under the age of 14, one 18 year old and one 4 year old.

In the car, we listened to all kinds of music.  My son (Scott), is into Rap, and on the way there, he asked if we could put "50 Cent" in the CD player. So we gave it a try. It didn't last long.

We bought Walkie Talkie radio's to keep in touch with our friends in the other car, just in case we got seperated throughout the trip.  So, we all started making up names for the radio.  I was Blue Eyes,  my friend Chris was "Queen", her husband Bobby was (I forget), I forget most of them - My step-daughter Meagan was Hypocondriac Girl, my daughter Stephanie was (I forget), my son Scott was "White Chocolate" and Christopher blurted out in the car...."I'LL BE 47 CENT!" LOL

For the longest time, we called him "FAWTY SEVEN" even around the house! And it became so natural to all of us.

At Christopher's wake, my daughter Stephanie didn't want to part with anything he had given her to put in his casket.  Christine (my friend who took the trip with us), suggested "47 cents".  We talked it over with Ken and he loved the idea.

Christopher would have gotten the biggest kick out of it - so he had the 47 cents in his pocket the whole time, and it never left him.

Just a memory that I have - that's a good one to me. And I guess it's kind of silly, but Christopher was a kid who never wanted to grow up, and that's so vital in life today. He had such a great attitude about everything and he was so wonderful with the kids. When we were in Florida, he would spend time with each and every one of them, even the 4 year old Mandee who used to call him "Big Guy".  They loved  him too! We all did. He was just a great kid.

So that's one of my memories of Christopher and why I love the number 47.  Just wanted to share.

Tomorrow is his birthday - to say the least, it's going to be hard, so in case I post away about pointless things, don't feel obligated to respond, it's just my way of getting it out and telling wonderful people on this board about one of the wonderful people and times in my life.

So thanks for that.

Love,
Toni

What a lovely story, thank you for sharing it. I've just seen Pep's motto at the bottom of her post, "Carve your name on hearts, and not on marble." - Charles H. Spurgeon
Sounds like Chris was certainly a kid who has done that

Oh yes.  He certainly did.  Thanks for letting me share my stories about him.  Im truly heartbroken, and my husband - - I don't even know what to say.

Tomorrow, like I said is Christopher's birthday, and it's not like we've even had time for things to sink in yet and start to become reality.  It's been not even 3 weeks and we are having to deal with this.  It's going to be really hard, and I will probably wind up posting some more great memories of my beloved step-son.

I just wish I had more time to let him know how much I loved him.  It's always been hard for him to let his feelings show with the constant animosity between his mother and I; feeling torn and all.  But the feeling was always there, Ken always knew it was, and deep down, so did I.

I just wish I could turn back time...I guess if I had just one wish, that would be it. To turn back time and do things different.

Thanks for helping me get through this, all of you.

I love you all - and Jonny, since you posted that, I've been taking your advice.  I just can't stop now.

I'm going to let it all out...
Toni
