I have seen the power of prayer/positive thinking through all of you. I'm in need of that right now.

I just got notified that my mother is in the hospital with a posible stroke or worse. They didn't know for sure, but urged me to come as soon as possible. For one of my family to say, "Come now." It has to be bad. Just as an example, it took them a year to tell me my neice had been born. Needless to say, we don't talk much. That's why I am worried. I am also rambling. Sorry. I'll be away for at least a few days, maybe more.

Have I told y'all how much I love you, lately? You're all the best there is.

Well, I made it to West, Texas. Mom is in the hospital in Waco. I don't know which one yet. They won't let me go see her right now, because she needs her rest and she wouldn't sleep if she knew I was there. So I am camped out at her house until morning. I guess the doctor isn't back with the test results yet. All I do know is sketchy - she apparently had what she thought was a really bad migraine, then a pain in her back, next thing anyone knows she can't move or speak.

At this point I don't know if they're protecting her or me. I do know that I'm going frickin crazy with all the waiting around. I didn't drive 360 miles, through 2 K8 attacks (didn't stop, just filled the syringes and poked myself in the stomach while driving 70 miles per hour) to wait around for visiting hours. Jane, my better half, is doing her best to keep me calmed down until we are allowed to see mom. She's about the only force in nature that can keep me in check when I'm about to go off. Best wife, friend, lover and supporter a man could have. How the hell I got so lucky is beyond me.

Anyways, for now we wait. Sorry for rambling again. Thank you, my cluster family, for all the support. I definiteelly need it right now.

MY step mother kept my sisters and I away from my dad
as he succombed to cancer a few years back.
Kept erasing our phone messages, and saying
they would be out of town....when they were not.

Then, she had the audacity to complain to my
aunts and the rest of the family that we never called
or visited.

It made for a wonderful relationship.... not.

Your family is in our prayers.
May the miracle of the medical research
be the ticket that saves her life....
and let the "damage" be temporary, and reversable.

Well, I am back. Mom appears to be out of the woods, but we still don't know what happened.

The head pain, back pain and inability to speak were somewhat misrepresented. She had a migraine, then a few days later had back pain. She was placed in the hospital due to the back pain. She was given several different meds for pain which contributed greatly to her "not being able to talk." Actually, she could talk, but was very slurred and incoherent. It took them 2 days to figure that out and then only after my sisters and I told them the incoherence was worse after she took the meds. They changed the meds and that helped with the lucidity. She did suffer a very sudden and rapidly progressing respiratory infection after being admitted. She went from breathing fine, to small cough to difficulty breathing in about 36 hours. Initial x-rays, blood test, ct scans and mri's all came back normal.

Friday evening, she told the doctor she just could not cough up anything and asked the doctor to use suction to clear her lungs. (Did I mention she's an RN and has been in nursing for about 30 years?) He refused, saying as long as she could cough, we would just wait and see how it progressed. It got much worse. Saturday, I told the nurse on duty that she was too weak to cough up anything and that if she could just get her lungs clear, she would feel much better. Not being a medical professional I was of course ignored. I spent Saturday night caring for her everything from helping her to the bathroom to coaching her breathing when at one point it became so labored that she would stop breathing for several seconds at a time. This also was reported to the nurse on duty. She advised me to continue watching her and she would notify the doctor. Several hours later they came in with an expectorant and a medicine to combat pneumonia. A respiratory specialist came in Sunday night and ordered new x-rays which showed the build up of mucous in her lungs. He ordered all meds stopped and then gave her something to induce coughing. She went into a coughing fit and hacked up a ton of crap. After about 10 minutes of serious and painful coughing, she was breathing fine and was sitting up talking fine (albeit with a sore, raspy throat). They are still running tests to figure out what the hell happened in the first place. She is still in the hospital until they figure it out.

Still we wait. And people wonder why I hate hospitals. Thanks again for all your vibes, well wishes and prayers.
