Title: Man tries to convert lions to Jesus, gets bit Pics Post by athos on Nov 3rd, 2004, 11:22am Man tries to convert lions to Jesus, gets bitten 46-year-old leaps into den at Taipei Zoo, calls beasts to Christianity Reuters Updated: 5:51 a.m. ET Nov. 3, 2004 TAIPEI, Taiwan - A man leaped into a lion’s den at the Taipei Zoo on Wednesday to try to convert the king of beasts to Christianity, but was bitten in the leg for his efforts. “Jesus will save you!” shouted the 46-year-old man at two African lions lounging under a tree a few meters away. “Come bite me!” he said with both hands raised, television footage showed. One of the lions, a large male with a shaggy mane, bit the man in his right leg before zoo workers drove it off with water hoses and tranquilizer guns. Newspapers said that the lions had been fed earlier in the day, otherwise the man might have been more seriously hurt ... or worse. |

Title: Re: Man tries to convert lions to Jesus, gets bitt Post by Jeepgun on Nov 3rd, 2004, 2:30pm Here in the South, we have "Primitive Baptists," who get together out in the woods and handle rattlesnakes and stuff. I used to volunteer with the local ambulance unit and we had to go out and rescue some woman who'd been bitten on the face by a copperhead. She was all freaked out and the EMT I was with said, "Well what the hell did you expect?!" Personally, I like Mohammad's idea better: "Trust in Allah, but tie up your camel." ;) |

Title: Re: Man tries to convert lions to Jesus, gets bitt Post by Jonny on Nov 3rd, 2004, 4:45pm STRAP DOWN YOUR BRATTY KIDS WITH: TODDLER STRAITJACKETS CARLISLE, England -- Frazzled mothers have discovered a new way to keep their troublesome toddlers from driving them nuts -- by putting them in straitjackets! Housewife and mother of two Andrea Brown, 27, of Carlisle, invented the miniature restraints, originally to help subdue her rowdy 3-year-old son Liam. "Liam was into everything and he just wouldn't mind me," Andrea recalls. "One night, after a particularly bad day, I told my husband I'd had it. I said, 'The only way that kid's going to keep his hands to himself is with a straitjacket.' Then I thought, 'Why not?' " Andrea admits her young son was initially none too pleased to have his arms bound and his movements restricted, but he soon got used to the new garment. "He cried a lot at first and put up quite a fuss," she says, "but I think now he really enjoys it. He rolls around on the floor, trying to get up without his arms for support. He makes a game out of it." Andrea also found other people initially skeptical about her unorthodox method of restraining her boy, especially when she took little Liam out in public. "We got a lot of stares at first when I'd take Liam in his straitjacket to the park," she admits. "But soon mothers who also had problems with their children began to approach me and ask about getting straitjackets for their kids." Before Andrea knew it, she was in business. She now manu- factures and distributes her own line of toddler straitjackets throughout England. The majority of Andrea's customers couldn't be happier with the results of her stylish straitjackets, which come in a variety of eye-catching colors and sizes. Eleanor Squire, 23, of Manchester, sings the praises of the product. "Now my little Harry doesn't grab everything in sight." But not everyone approves of putting children in straitjackets. Child psychologist Dr. Herbert Richards, 54, says, "This can't be healthy for any child, being restrained in this manner. It sends a terrible message to kids." Despite the criticism, Andrea plans to continue selling the jackets. "As long as there are unruly children," says Andrea, "there will be parents like me who will need to restrain them." |
