Title: Of Computers
Post by Cerberus on Oct 27th, 2004, 10:21am

Ok Geeks and other gurus out there. Having computer problems that I just cant seem to fix.
Is there ANY reason that I should be able to access the internet in almost every capacity EXCEPT for Hotmail and Yahoo?

AND...WinXP SP2 when I installed it , Access was only allowed on my profile....?? [smiley=huh.gif] I have a firewall (router), secondary firewalls/anti-virus software (trend micro) any plausible answers?

Oh and BTW....it has become apparent that my Cycle has begun OH JOY! more on that later (one fuckin headache at a time pls)

 Ramon

Not sure, but have you checked the browser settings?  If it is only particular web pages, they might require cookies or pop-ups to be enabled.  Or they might not like it if you are hidden behind a proxy.

Check your hosts file...
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Some malware tweaks it, but usually to route you to their own preferred site.

Did this happen right after installing SP2?
If so, uninstall any firewalls, disable the router firewall if you can and try again. I had several friends who couldnt get to the internet (in one case: email worked) after installing SP2.

Hope this helps.

Try this: Yahoo may be set up as an exception in the Firewall. Right-click on My Network Places, choose Properties. Right-click on Local Area Connection, choose Properties. Click on the Advanced tab. Press the Settings button. Click on the Exceptions tab. Press the Add Program button. Select Yahoo.

Add Hotmail & Yahoo to your "Trusted Zones" (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/using/howto/security/settings.mspx) in IE.

SP2 is aggravating me too...
