Title: Afgan Eagle
Post by Longhaired Redneck on Oct 26th, 2004, 7:04pm
This was sent to me by a friend of mine.

The crew of an Mi-24 Helicopter crew in Afghanistan painted their bird. Bet it scares the hell outta some folks  ;;D

(will only put one of the three pics up, to much for some peoples slow dial up, like mine. Will put the link to the other 2 if you want to see them)

*NOTE* these 2 links removed, see post on 10/27 for site link and correct info  :-[

Since the Mi-24 is a Russian Hind, I'm thinking that those guys aren't American...could be wrong...

Can't verify what they are, US or others, took what i had, like the bird though.

Long hair is now in my mind. I know this will be a blow to Jonny but I don't have no damn "mullet" any more.

"handsome" have glasses will overnite! [smiley=laugh.gif]

Really nice images. Like them a lot.

My guess is that the US military wouldn't allow something this dramatic to be done. Dangerous, I expect.  Not French are they? They sent the largest support group with us when we went after the Taliban.

Cool pics. Though I'd have to agree that's not a US helcopter, those don't look like American troops, the US military would definitely not allow that, and that sure as hell is not Afghanistan!!!

Good Call, Tom.

The pictures are not of an American helicopter, but of a Russian MI-24 "Hind" assault helicopter.  It was used extensively by the Soviets in Afghanistan but this paint-job does not appear to be for combat.  Probably painted this way for display or promotional purposes.

The pic is of the MI-24 on display at an air show at Szentkirályszabadja, Hungary.

Still a cool pic & paint job.

Jimmy

Your all right,
Never trust an email from a woman  ;;D

Here is the real story with more pics. It is a Russian Hind, that was used in afghanistan, but by the Russians.

Quote from site "This very special Mi-24 helicopter was painted by the Hungarian Air Force.  Take a good look at the triangle chevron on the tail of the Mi-24 above the 117 that is the Hungarian Air Force insignia.  It has been around Europe at air shows from 2000 to present.  Actually the paint job is only for Air shows and not ever meant for combat." The site has more pics the bird and the entire story.

Thanks to the sharp eyed folks for correcting my goof.
